If you lived in a poverty stricken area, where there are no jobs, no food, your family is hungry, the cubbards are empty, Your childrens feet are barefooted, their clothes are worn out, the government over you could not care about your plight, there are no government services and there are only 2 choices.
You either starve and watch your children starve as well.
OR
You can feed your family by illegaly entering into another country and working, taking a small part of the abundance that others have?
I am only looking for the answers that answer my question. Don't give me a long rundown about the law. Because if a law were made that would make it illegal for you to eat. You would break that law.
Just answer the immediate question.

Yes the scenario does exist!!! I have seen it with my own eyes.

I have not failed to see this with a third option. those with options are not part of this question. My question is as asked. Either you starve or you break the law of another land. choose between the two.

R.A. Your answer is completely irrelevent. I did not mention anything about any particular race. And you went and made it a Mexican issue. YOU ARE PATHETIC.

You do know that there are people living exactly the way that you describe right here in the United States, don't you?

Also, you see only two choices in the situation but I see several choices. Yes, the two choices you presented are viable options: starve or illegally enter another country where you may have the chance at a better life. However, you neglected to mention the other options:

1. If you live in an area that is so economically depressed but yet have the money to smuggle yourself and your entire family over the boarder into another country, then you have the economic means to move yourself to another part of your own country. One that isn't so economically depressed and that will offer better job opportunities.

2. You could take action BEFORE your cupboards became bare, BEFORE your children are living in rags with no shoes. You know, you can grow your own food and raise your own meat. You can use the excess food to sell at market to obtain money to purchase the things that are needed that you can't grow or make yourself.

3. OR, if you're not opposed to criminal activity (as you must not be because you're willing to violate the immigration laws of another country) why not just steal the things you need in your own country? Why not shoplift the shoes, clothes and food that you need? It would be easier, closer to home and you wouldn't be out the time and money it would take to smuggle your entire family into another country.

Personally, I would choose a course of action that included both of MY options #1 and #2. No laws are broken and I still get to provide for my family.

Edited to respond to this:

"I have not failed to see this with a third option. those with options are not part of this question. My question is as asked. Either you starve or you break the law of another land. choose between the two"

I understand that you're presenting a hypothetical; however, if you're going to try to apply the result from a hypothetical question to a real world situation (e.g. justifying the presence of illegal immigrants) you cannot exclude the real world situation surrounding the question by manipulating it to effect the results you want to see. .

The truth is that there are options. I have never met anyone yet who didn't have some options. Those who say they don't have options are either very narrow minded or they have chosen to be "victims" in the world.

There is a third choice, and it was taken by the French during the reign of Louis 16th in 1789-1799. Overturn the existing government, and replace it with one that is "for the people".

This may mean at least as much hardship (if not more) for the family in the short run, but a much better life in the long term.

As to taking the choice of doing something illegally ... what happens, if for instance, you get caught as an illegal and the penalty is imprisonment or death? Is that doing your family any good? Or is it hurting their chances of survival even more? Is it really worth the risk involved?

The family in question lives on land, presumably ... which measn they CAN exist (meagerly, most likely) by growing their own food. They have enough hands to do the work - the life isn't glamorous, but it is no worse than 13th and 14th century serfs had in Europe. They must have done well enough ... a majority of those of European background who are alive today are descended from those same serf families.

I sympathize but do you know that "abundance that others have"? That is from the backs of hardworking taxpayers who also have families to feed - if it were all free I doubt most would care but its not free, somebody is paying for it and that somebody is tired of footing the bill, not to mention that taking from that "abundance that others have" is called stealing.

EDIT: Mevale, these are 2002 numbers they are even higher now.

Illegal alien households are estimated to use $2,700 a year more in services than they pay in taxes, creating a total fiscal burden of nearly $10.4 billion on the federal budget in 2002.

Among the largest federal costs: Medicaid ($2.5 billion); treatment for the uninsured ($2.2 billion); food assistance programs ($1.9 billion); the federal prison and court systems ($1.6 billion); and federal aid to schools ($1.4 billion).

If illegal aliens were legalized and began to pay taxes and use services like legal immigrants with the same education levels, the estimated annual fiscal deficit at the federal level would increase from $2,700 per household to nearly $7,700, for a total federal deficit of $29 billion.

With nearly two-third of illegals lacking a high school diploma, the primary reason they create a fiscal deficit is their low education levels and resulting low incomes and tax payments — not their legal status or their unwillingness to work.

Edit Again Mevale: The government is not sitting on 420 billion dollars that money belongs to those who have paid into SS and Medicare (that money is actually borrowed from the American people). You are not thinking ahead to a few years when the baby boomers retire and a MASSIVE chunk of taxpayers retire and start living on their WELL DESERVED retirement and benefits after all they paid into it, what will we do then?

Also your right about the figures being from earlier, actually they are from 2002 the last time figures were compiled and you do of course realize that the number of illegals has actually GROWN since then right? So the numbers are actually conservative.

The scenario you depict is a minority version of what actually exists over there. The bigger problem is their politicians lack of accountability to their constituents, bribes are the norm.

Mexico is a very rich country, it just doesn't distribute the wealth. But that's their problem, they need to resolve. It's not my country's duty to hold another country's hand.

The poor, half naked and starving Mexican your talking about is a stereotype. Granted there are poor people over the border, but there are poor ones here to.

My son in law and his family came from Mexico, legally about 12 years ago. Their a great bunch of people and as they've said to me, there's no reason for the Mexicans coming over here to not do it the right way. They (my in-laws) hold the illegals in low regard, they say the only reason they jump the border is because they can't be bothered to follow the law.

Now as you've asked, Would I do what was needed to feed my family, you bet

You know, let me ask you a question... When did America become outraged? Yeah, when they started protesting. We have been letting this go on, feeling empathetic to their cause... helping them in every way possible. That wasn't good enough for them. They want more. We tried!
I would do the same. I admit it. You know what I would do different? I wouldn't fly the flag of a country I didn't want to live in. I wouldn't demand people learn a new language to accommodate me. I wouldn't have the gull to ask for more after they already made sacrifices to have me here. I wouldn't protest to change laws in a country I shouldn't be in. I wouldn't burn their flag and then expect them to be nice to me!

CanTexan, that was a great answer.

The senario you paint does not exist. You are trying to find justification for illegals coming into the country, illegally. There is none. It is unlawful and morally wrong to invade another's country and take what belongs to others.

In a heart beat I would cross over illegally. No questions asked it my family we are talking about.

edit: Michelle FYI. Undocumented immigrants pay taxes in a number of ways, including income and sales tax. The majority of undocumented immigrants pay income taxes using ITINs or false social security numbers. All immigrants, regardless of status, will pay on average $80,000 per capita more in taxes than they use in government services over their lifetime. The SS system reaps the biggest windfall from taxes paid by immigrants, the SSA reports that it holds approximately $420 billion from the earnings of immigrants who are not in a position to claim benefits.
