i've heard my friend say, she doesn't want to stand next to a microwave while preg. b/c of the strength of the waves not good for the baby? i mean i know this is true for cell phone waves for brain damage and such, so is this the same concept? what else should i stay away from?

Your friend is right, it can cause birth deffects such as brain damage. It has been proven that if anyone, even if you are not pregnant, stands within 3 feet of a microwave while it is on it can cause reproductive problems.

Hogwash. If it were true, the FDA would ban Microwaves completely. They're built so none of the waves make it out. Even if they did, it would cook you before your baby. Graphic I know, but use logic here. Cell phones use radio waves, waves that pass THROUGH you, like your radio or tv signal. Microwaves are amplified X-rays, but have filters in the microwave ovens that dampen the waves from exiting.

You'll be ok. You're better off worrying about giving your kids Pop-tarts and Ramen Noodles, and letting them play X-box. THOSE WILL stunt a child.

Well you could back away 3ft to be sure but they say the doors are made well enough so no waves escape.
