Yes: The Bible said that the Devil take the Word out of people's heart, because he fear that they might believe.

the devil is a fallen angel, where as god is the all powerful superman of the known universe. The devil was cast out of heaven for doing something naughty, ( like adding a red sock to a white wash) and sent to the earthly plane to reflect on what he has done.
However if you was the devil and you wanted to "get back" at god, wouldn't the best thing to do is start up your own religion to steal away all of god's followers.
How would you do that? Easy all you do is pretend to be the good guy and then make the real good guy a bad guy.( Still with me?) So you make your religion the best damn thing and if you do as I say then you can come to paradise. But really you are being subverted from the true religion.
Therefore you could say that if you don't believe in god you are doing the right thing and following the real gods true plan?

If someone doesn't believe in God, then by necessary logic, they cannot believe in the "Devil". God and Devil go hand in hand. In theology one does not exist without the other. In reality, God & Devil are polar opposites forever battling which conveys the everyday struggle between Yin & Yang and Good & Evil. So the answer to your question is that it is NOT because of the Devil that people do not believe in God because without believing in God, one cannot believe in the alternate evil of the Devil. No religion has it 100% right and some people choose not to follow the beliefs of everyone else but instead choose only to believe in a higher power, but not necessarily the idea of the being known as "god".

If you ask an atheist you'll be told that neither a god nor a devil exist.
If you ask a believer then you'll probably be told that a devil is behind atheism. They believe in a god because they are being true to themselves, but those who don't believe in god have been corrupted by a devil. In other words, "I'm right and all of those who aren't with me are evil." Convenient isn't it?

I don't believe in the devil. I don't believe in god. If you study theology and history and anthropology, you will find all the creation stories are very similar. Sacrifice was to appease the gods. If bad things happened it was because the boogie man or devil did it. People who don't believe in god are usually free-thinking, intelligent people.

Andrew W what is the W short for, worthless, at least put some effort into your answers.
The spirit of this world has darkened the hearts and minds through sin. Their hearts have become hardened towards God they don't see God in creation for Jesus is the Light of the world and they just can't see Him, just as I couldn't before so you who are limited with your one sided opinions haven't the right as we who have both sides. YOU live in the dark we have known the dark but now live in the Light, do you see, NO!
Wake up O sleeper and rise from the dead and Christ will shine upon you.

No. It is because of sin.
If you had no sin then the Devil would and could have no place or power in your life.
The claim that we have freewill is an obvious and self evident absurdity. No one in their right minds would choose misery and judgement rather than the most perfect and wonderful Being full of goodness and love.
But sin hideously misrepresents God, and fears loss of independence.
We are all in bondage to sin.
Sin hates God and places self as god.
Only Christ is able to overcome this bondage and give even an opportunity to choose. Without Him we would ALL choose against, as is self evident.
Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Well the answer to that depends on your belief system. In mine, the devil doesn't exist and deities aren't proved entities so the answer would be no.
