If you haven't ever been over in the other sections, it seems most of the questions from kids at school seem to be how do I circumvent the MySpace blocks the school administrators place on school computers, or they want people to do their homework and research for them, so they can copy and paste answers without looking like they plagerized Wikipedia.
It might be time to block Yahoo from school machines. Yahoo isn't at all necessary at school.

Since my tax dollars go to pay for those computers at school, I have every right to say what they should be used for.
They were bought to use for school work. If the little children get bored, TOO BAD. Read a book, if they know how.

The computor can be a useful research tool at school. However I believe sites like My Space, Facebook etc.should be blocked. They are recreational and social sites, with no educational value. Some students may be surprised to learn they are at school for an education.

Last year I taught at a high school (charter school) that allowed the kids to go on-line. Ninety percent of the time the kids were on My Space. When the woman who runs the school was rudely awakened by the fact that the kids were earning little to no credit (this was after a great deal of complaining from the teachers), she had Yahoo, Google, etc. blocked from the computers! It was amazing how much more work was accomplished when the kids had to focus on their work! Annie

When I was a senior, we were allowed on the computers. Yes, that included kids getting on MySpace. As long as you did your work, the teacher didn't really care.
My dad paid tax dollars also. As long as I continued bringing home A's and B's, he didn't really bother me about going on myspace at school. I listened to him, not you (which is someone I didn't even know).
You can tell your kids not to go on MySpace and Yahoo, but you can't really tell other kids what to do. Not to be rude, but I think the parents should decide whether or not their kids go on myspace.
Also, I didn't get my homework from online. I did it myself, thank you.

well... there may not be a choice.. in public libraries and some schools the CIPA act was passed to block porn. If the institution complies with the filtering of porn they get a grant from the government.. Not that many libraries passed this opportunity... Now there is DOPA (Deleting Online Predators Act) which will filter MySpace, Friendster Tagged and the like!

myspace shouls be blocked as well as yahoo, and google images. if u look up a nude photo it still comes up and is only blocked once u click on it. its pointless. and there r many codes kids make to get past the block.

whatever - if you don't like your kids on these sites then tell your kids not to go there, but don't be telling other kids what they should or shouldn't do - they are not your kids
