They give them away for free. You just need to say here on Yahoo that you want one (one per person or two per a family.)
OK, kidding aside, they're mostly sold to rental companies, or to other companies as fleet cars. Sometimes they sell them to foreign dealers.

They linger on the dealer's lots, until the dealer discounts them enough to sell them.

I bought one a long time ago like that. It was mid-November, well into the new car year, but there was this unloved new car from the previous model year. The dealer eventually sold it to me for 14% off of MSRP.

I think it didn't sell because it really was kind of ugly, both interior and exterior. But at the time, I didn't care. I just needed something cheap.

eventually they get sold at great discounts we still have 3 2006 models and even a 2005 model on our lot the 2005 is a pontiac vibe with a strange package someone will eventually buy it at 12,000 off the sticker.
