Seems very high to me, especially considering even a good dental insurance plan typically only picks up 1/2 of the overall cost. Wanted input from anyone "in the know."

Hmmmm...that does seem rather expensive. That was how much I paid (with insurance subsidy) for a root canal AND crown on a bicuspid.

My average cost for a crown is about $950, including a core buildup for a porcelain on high-nobel (and I live in SoCal).

I just had a brand new crown put in, also on a molar. It was only $900. I personally don't see why a replacement would cost more, as there would be less work for them involved. But then again, I'm not a dentist either, nor do I know your specific details. I personally think that the best bet would be to call around to other dental offices in your area to get an idea of what the competition charges prior to getting the work done.

Good luck!

It depends on where you're located. Lab charges vary significantly as well as the dentist's fees. The $1200 is probably the entire fee, not taking into account your insurance. Some dentists require that you pay and be reimbursed by your insurance company. With some insurance companies, your dentist can send in paperwork to get an estimate of how much the insurance will pay. That $1200 is double what crowns are in my area. I recently had an estimate done, and it was $600. Good luck.

The price depends of your location and if your dentist is a specialist (prosthodontist) or if a dentist exclusively does cosmetic dentistry.

In rurual NE Wisconsin the fee is around $925.

The fee takes into account supplies, lab expenses and impressions as well as office/staff costs. $1200 for a crown in a larger city/metro area is reasonable.

I would look at your insurance as you would a Costco or Sam's Club membership. You have to pay a fee to shop and that fee entitles you to get a discount, but you still have to pay for the product.

That's way too much, you can get it for less than that without insurance because I know someone who is getting one. Search the yellow pages and call all the dentist that specializes in that until you get a good price.

Too much. About half that. What is the crown made of? They ususally use gold to keep more of the tooth when replacing the crown. It''s also good if the tooth below is missing.

It's like $2 to get in but you have to buy at least two drinks and they're expensive.
