For the purposes of this question, let's presume that an alien invasion is something that we would want to prepare AGAINST. Consider... if aliens came and took over, maybe we would be better off! In that case, "preparing" for an alien invasion" would mean making preparations to ease the transition.

That said, there are two approaches to repelling an attack: one would be to operate under the assumption that our existing technology is as adequate to repel an attack from outer space as an attack from another country; the other is to operate under the assumption that our weapons technology would be useless.

In the former, "preparing" for an alien invasion would mean stockpiling weapons and establishing an inter-continental military infrastructure to coordinate a counter attack. The objective would be the coordination of efforts from the world's countries.

In the latter, where our technology would be ineffective, "preparing" would mean establishing a communications network to warn and advise the world's citizens as to how best protect and/or defend themselves as events unfold. Ideally, the system would be resistant to disruption post-attack.

But, in reality, the answer is that there is no best way to prepare for an invasion because there are too many unknowns. Perhaps the aliens would see organized resistance as cause to destroy us, rather than pass us by. Perhaps the aliens would attack us as a preemptive measure when they saw us preparing, thereby defeating the purpose of our preparations. Perhaps it would be better to allocate our energies toward research and development, instead of massing weapons.

It's a good question, but there are too many loose ends involved to give a firm response. The unknowns are so numerous that the answer to the question of "how to prepare for an alien invasion" is to say that you cannot prepare for an alien invasion.

This depends greatly upon the nature of the Aliens themselves. If they travled here in space ships from other stars than our best bet would be to bargin for our survival as a race by any means nessesary. Any beings with the capability to travel the vast distances between stars, would be vasly more intelegent and powerful. In real life, the aliens from Independance Day would have crushed us without difficulty. However, if our alien invaders are from a parrallell reality, a different time period, or from some other not so distant possibility, combatting them might be a bit more possible, but would still be greatly dependant upon thier nature. Given the liklyhood that any creature evolving from a completly different invironment is likely to share almost nothing in common with us, its not very likely that they want anything from us by our realistate and natural resources... biological weapons would be difficult to deploy if they are already not breathing our air or eating our food.

We will never be prepared for alien invasion because their technology is probably more superior to ours(and we don't know what technology they have so we are doomed if aliens invade) and a nuke wouldn't even make a scratch on their mother ship.lol.

Consider appeasing them any way possible or combating them any way possible in an effort to survive until we can research their superior technology and turn it against them.

Our weaponry would probably be poorly suited to attack them, necessitating the period of research & development before a counter-attack could be mounted.

Our best initial attack would probably amount to a car-jacking nuisance. If we could figure out how to ground their ships & commandeer them, it would be the quickest way to raise our fighting competence levels.

I would also start a large government based surface to space missile program. If they can sit in space & lob stuff at us while we can't reach them, then the game's over before it starts.

If we are stronger then them, we fight until the last human standing, If they are smarter then gave up, gain their trust, learn their technology and improve our self with genetic engineering, then find good timing and do the best thing depending on the situation.

If, and I say "IF" another alien race is technologically advanced enough to come all the way here in hope to destroy us, there's nothing you can do except to kiss your *** goodbye!

Learn to grapple. They are decent boxers but if you get them in the clinches you can take them down pretty easy and then start elbowing them in the face.
