How do you know when your wasting your time? I have dated the same guy for about 6 yrs. He asked me to marry him about 9 mo after we started dating, then changed his mind. We have been in this relationship for so long, I wonder when it will end. I used to look foreward to our togetherness, but now I see it as a way for him to get sex. We are not youngsters. He is in his late 50's, and I am in my 40's and we both are home owners. I just hate this running back and forth and no ring, no marriage proposal, no future and I am not getting younger. I just want to know what your opinion is.

He's having his cake and eating it too- at your expense! I proposed to my wife after dating 3 months, we were married within 9 months, and have been together now for fifteen years. There is no way I would have backed out and given someone else a chance to take the best thing that ever happened to me away. Dump the mooch and find a "real" partner.

I was young in my early 20's when the same thing happened to me. I think my ex was leading me on and she was definitely an enabler. I knew it was over when my heart told my mind to shut up and my doubts about the whole thing became a reality and she went silent and grew distant. Dump him and move on he's only using you as his scape goat and for the sex of course. Typical guy. Listen to your heart if it says run from him then don't wait around hun you get running ok. Good luck. By the way I was with my ex fiance yes we were engaged for a while for around 4 years almost.

We got married 2 years to the day of our first date. Of course we were only 19 and 21 but we're still married 15 years 2 kids later. In my opinion and this is just my own experience if it's gonna happen it will happen right away. Good luck.

My opinion is: if it's not working for you, then change it or end it.
Some people date for years and are content with that, others want more of a legal committment and that's fine.
If you're just not that into the relationship anymore, or feel that he's not, then talk about it...you may find that he wants to improve things, or that he's ready to move on.

I have been with the same guy for 4yrs now, as far as you go
maybe he is just comfortable because after 6yrs you are still putting up with arrangement..you have to put pressure on some men because if they feel like they can have there cake and eat it too, they will eat the whole damn cake and not offer you any..you need stability

have you ever tried talking to him about it?
most important thing in a relationship is communication...
longest i dated someone was 4 years and they ended up cheating on me...
you never know when your wasting your time.. just have faith i guess, but until you tell him how you feel you wont see any changes.
good luck and God bless

I would have to say that my longest relationship was 6 months.. you probably weren't wasting you time...you probably really did like him then you drifted apart...relationships don't last forever unless well of course....your lucky maybe. 9 months into dating huh...maybe he just didn't want to lose you...who knows...but now i would have to say by the way it sounds it sound like he really only wants sex..thats sad..i think that you should KICK HIM TO THE CURB!!!!I

He asked you to marry him then changed his mind? Men tend to not buy the cow when they can get free milk. If he hasn't married you in the 6 years he probably won't. Sorry.
