At age 18, you are an adult and no longer have to live by your mom's rules. It sounds like your mom is in denial about you being an adult, so you may have to take the fist move in just getting out there to be on your own...cut the symbolic umbilical cord she's attached to you and live your life. She may be hurt at first, but she will get over that. Remember to tell her that you love her, but that you need to start living as an adult now. She should understand that.

You are an adult now, if mom wont let you do your own thing or is still trying to run your life, then you need to get out and get your own apartment so that you can do the things that make you happy. Maybe try standing up for yourself, Im not sure what mom is doing, but at 18 you can go to war for your country, you are certainly able to make some decisions on your own!

I have been in that situation. When I was 18 my mom wouldn't let me go anywhere. I called the cops and asked if she could do that. They said she couldn't cause I was considered an adult. Tell her you are not a kid anymore. What if you wanted to go to college?!? Is she gonna move in the dorm with you?!? Goodness! Stand your ground and get out. Get the cops involved if you have to. Good luck!

You should tell her that you're ready to be an adult.

That she needs to back off and give you some space!

I'm 18 too, but I kinda have the opposite problem.

Your mom probably just loves you a lot and wants to protect you forever...

Make sure you let her know that just because your growing up doesnt mean you wont stop needing her.

Everyone no matter how old they are still needs their mommy!

It's a touchy situation. Potentially explosive. Be careful. You don't want to hurt your mom's feelings, but you need her to understand that you are not a child anymore.

Are you financially solvent? Or are you still living off of mom? Get a job. Get out into the world. It's going to be less of a shock if you get a roomate. Show mom that you're okay by yourself, and that you still love her, still need her, but not like you did when you were a child.

Tell her how you honestly feel. Don't hurt her, though, she's your Mom and she loves you.

what do u mean she doesn't let u?.. does she physically hold u down? ur mom thinks ur a little kid because u are. If u were grown there wouldn't be problems getting out of the house.

Try and explain it to her but if she won't hear you then just move on and move out. Some times it's hard on parents letting go especially with the last child to leave home. Read the Dear Abby column for more on that.

Get a job, save up some money, and get out of there. If you're in the US, 18 makes you a legal adult. You can do almost anything you like, but while you're in her house you're kind of stuck. You don't want to get kicked out before you can afford to go. Save up fast and get out of there.
