the part inside the church - a protestant would call it the sanctuary where the service is held. Do the Catholics have the same name?

The place surrounding the altar ( usally an elevated area with at least 3 steps) is called the sanctuary.

The area where the congregation sits is called the nave.

The assembly sits in pews in the nave of the church.

The focal area of the liturgical actions take place in the sanctuary (Latin sanctus, "holy"), but when "sanctuary is used we must be careful not to imply that this is the only holy area in the building, for indeed the entire church, the entire assembly area, is a holy place.

There are three important pieces of furniture in the sanctuary, the presider's chair, the lectern (or ambo) and the altar.

Christ is present in Mass in four ways:
+ The assembly as the Body of Christ
+ The ordained Priest as a representative of Christ
+ The Word of God in the Bible (on the lectern)
+ The Body and Blood of Christ in the Eucharist (on the altar)

With love in Christ.

Here is a link to a diagram that labels the parts of the Catholic Church including the rather specialized vocabulary that goes into describing the various parts:
