[64] Chavel 1967, v.I, 200f. The Bible references are Deuteronomy 20:17 and 25:19.

This obligation is commented by Rabbi Chavel:

"This Commandment ... will be better understood in the light of the following passage from the 'Mishneh Torah': 'We are not to engage in war with anyone whatever unless we [first] proclaim peace to him; [this is applicable to both] an optional and an obligatory war; for it is said, When thou drawest nigh a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it (Deut XX, 10). If [the inhabitants] accept the offer of peace... we are not to slay a soul among them, and they merely become tributary, for it is said, [All the people ... therein] shall become tributary unto thee, and shall serve thee'." (Ibid.)

****** OLD TESTAMENT COMMAND BY THE LORD OF ABRHAM : ***********

1) Give them the option of peace (to become believers)
2) If they want to keep their religion, they must pay the Tribute (Head Tax)
3) If they deny the above two options then fight them.

In other words, if the city's inhabitants object to being subdued/enslaved, they have to be slain nevertheless. Also sparing their life directly contradicts Negative Commandment 49 (see note [65]).

"We must not make a covenant with idolaters, to agree on keeping peace with them or accept them practising idolatry, because it says (Deut 7:2) Thou shalt not make a covenant with them. Either they give up idolatry or they are killed. And it is forbidden to pity them, since it says (ibid.): Nor shalt thou shew mercy unto them.

Words from the OLD TESTAMENT.

If Christians believe Jesus is God then he is the God of the Old Testament and therefore they cannot deny that GOD commanded this for the believers.

Just four little points:

1) The website you refer to is pro Muslim and anti-Jewish. Not very objective.

2) The OT is only relevant when read in the original Hebrew.

3) Jihad is not a Jewish concept.

4) These words were written five thousand years ago; the times have changed, dude. If you are trying to justify the Jihad or blame the Jews for being as violent as the Muslim, you have failed.

The scriptures that you reference do not suggest jihad. Try reading them yourself. Whoever's commentary you've posted is making a lot of their own assumptions.

Deuteronomy 20:17
But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:

Deuteronomy 25:19
Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget it.

Now tell me this is talking about jihad??
Not quite.

No. Any time the Lord told Israel to defend themself or take the land it was for a specific time & place & people.

Jihad according to the Koran is anyone who oppresses your faith. To revenge for oppression. Any time one is accused of oppressing Muslim faith.

In Jesus Christ, we are to love God, love others, even our enemies. To walk in forgiveness. The law of sin & death came by Moses. Grace & Truth came by Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I AM the Way, Truth & Life, No one comes to the Father except through Me.".

i'm not sure what the question is, but i read the surrounding text for these verses and ya know...the Israelites didn't stick to what God told them to do and sure enough...they began to worship false gods...sacrificing babies and so on...God wanted them to be pure and set apart from the gentiles.

True.

Where do you think Muhammad cribbed most of his violent stuff?

Hint: Hebrew Scripture.

The main reason the New Testament is less violent is due to the influence of Greek culture and values, all of which were superior to the Biblical commandments. Greece inadvertently created Christianity by spreading their culture to the desert tribes.
