some ticks do carry a disease, but unless it bit you i would not worry. if you got bit and are concerned i would see a doctor/ER immediately.
There are four major tick borne diseases that affect the dog in the United States:
Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and Lyme Disease.
All, with the usual exception of Lyme disease, may be fatal unless diagnosed in time and treated aggressively.
If you cannot get a firm diagnosis and nothing you do seems to help; if you cannot and will not settle for anything as vague as "compromised immune system"; if the symptoms you see make no sense and/or the treatment your dog is given does no good, you should consider the possibility that your dog has tick disease. more at site below

It depends on the type of tick that bit you.
Deer ticks are brown with a white dot on their back. They can carry Lymes Disease which affects the central nervous systems but is treatable with antibiotics. Lymes is usual indicated by the appearance of a red bullseye like ring around the bite site.
Dog ticks can transmit Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Initial symptoms may include: fever, nausea, severe headache, muscle pain and lack of appetite. It can also be treated with antibiotics.
If you notice any changes in your health you may want to see a doctor. Otherwise you should be fine. Ticks aren't as huge of a deal as people make them out to be. In fact, more people I know have been diagnose with Lymes than HAVEN'T!
If you live in a highly tick populated area you can take precautions to prevent them such as having guinea hens to eat them, doing control burning (with a permit of course!), wearing your jeans tucked into your socks and taking a note from Brad Paisely and checking each other after a day outdoors ( =
Just relax and watch yourself for unusual symptoms. One of the worst annoyances is someone who gets a tick bite and runs to the ER without just cause!!!

Yes you can. Usually if you go to the dr. within 24 hours they'll give you an antibiotic that should knock out any kind of disease that you may have gotten. Also, keep an eye out for any kind of bullseye looking patches around where you were bitten. Lyme disease can be a very painful disease, causing early arthritis and other kinds of problems. Like I said before, your best bet is to see a dr. and take of any potential problem before it becomes a problem.

You can catch something called Lyme disease. Watch for a bullseye looking spot where the tick bit you. If this develops, see a md right away.
