I agree entirely that there is no such thing as a separate soul, and that when you're dead, you're done, but I see no means, now or ever, of being able to prove this to the satisfaction of those who prefer to believe in superstitious nonsense. Having made up their minds, they are unwilling to be distracted by anything as inconvenient as a fact.

If we could localize the person, in the body, we could test the idea. But we can't. The person that controls the body, might not be here at all. When I play the guitar, I seem to be in my fingers, especially when I'm really 'feeling the music', and not thinking about it. Consciousness comes and goes, on a daily schedule. Ancient Egyptians had many concepts for a persons nature, more than spirit, mind, soul. That thinking part of our nature, may be local, but who's to say that our non-local personage can't plug in somewhere else without this body knowing about it. This is speculation, because I've never been out of this body, and I can't test the claims of others. I have heard that our mind is more like a holograph, set in our brain. That implies a wave pattern, that has been split, and then reformed. Extracting that pattern might be one way to test non-corporeal life.

You incorrectly assume that all Christians and Theists believe in a soul/spirit that lives on after death. This is not so.
As a true Christian I know for a fact that there is no immortal soul that survives the death of the body- the Bible even brings this out!
So the next time someone else is condemning your soul to a fiery hell (also nonexistent) recite a quote from their very own Bible: "The soul that is sinning, it itself will die." "The dead are conscious of nothing, neither do they earn wages anymore, because the wages sin pays is death."
That'll REALLY get them going! :0) hehehehehehehehehehe

You are talking about the life of the body and it`s experience of death, if that`s all there was to it, then perhaps you might well have a valid point, but as we are of a dual nature, spirit and body this falls flat, our soul which is eternal and not subject to chemical support, will live on after our physical death, and God will raise up our bodies and make them eternal also.
Science will never ever come to terms with this.

Yep. They (scientists) said this a few years ago in Time magazine. Finally concluded that such an undertaking was a vast waste of time. But, here's comes sammy harris working towards his doctorate in neuroscience, determined with mindless abandon to search for the "neural basis" of belief. I just hope they have lots of popcorn for when the movie comes out. I wonder who'll play the part of sammy? Ben Stiller, maybe.

Well as a Christian I already know that when we die, there is no immortal soul flying around or what have you. So I wouldn't have a problem with it. Some people forget that knowing and believing in what the Bible says/knowing and believing in science are not mutually exclusive. Fact is allot of the Scientific statements in the Bible are were years ahead of so called modern science. The Bible mentions, for instance, the Earth being Round.

Of course a part of our conscientious is physical and chemical, it is called our brain it is already a proven fact. But our brain is a physical part of our humanity the soul/spirit is not physical and can and will indeed live on after the death of our physical body.
When we die our physical bodies will (eventually) return to the dust from which it came. Our soul/spirit which contains everything that makes us human will ascend to heaven and remain in an intermediate state waiting to be reunited with our physical body which Christ will resurrect, make new again and reunite with our soul/spirit.

There is NO life after death, based on what the bible says : "5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. "

It's the same thing if someone could prove that God doesn't exist. Suddenly, God will be in another dimension or something equivalent.
The conscious will be "elsewhere".
