Second hand smoke is the leading cause of respiratory infections and ear infections in children. Any type of infection will cause the glands to swell. That is your body's way of flushing it out of the system.

The smoke is probably irritating his tonsils , but there may be other factors as well. Talk to your doctor about waiting to see if the swelling goes down after moving. If his tonsils are still swollen have them removed. Shame on your dad and his girlfriend for subjecting your son to that!

Second hand smoke indoors could play as a catalyst here in speeding up the process. Kids that age are very supceptable to their enviroment while swollen tonsils are very common around that age too. I would take him or her out of that enviroment.

As they say second hand smoke can affect you and your health. The problem is most people who smoke deny that it hurts anybody including themselves. Why don't you ask your parents to invest in getting an air purifier. They sell them in all sorts of sizes and maybe they can get a larger one for like the living room and a small one for your room. Those do work a lot.

It is rare for a doctor to advocate tonsil removal these days. Get a second opinion. It COULD be second hand smoke or some other environmental hazard that was there.

With a child so young I would not take chances and I would go straight to a pediatric allergist.

My son has the same problem with his tonsils being very big, we had him checked by the doctor too & he told us to keep him away from any second hand smoke beacuse they will irritate them & make them possibly swell more

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

I think it's normal for children to have their tonsils removed. The age necessary may vary with the child.

Second hand smoke isn't good for anyone to be breathing, especially in a closed in area. It is especially dangerous for children or adults with upper respiratory conditions.

I think it's a good idea that you move as soon as possible, and tell your dad and his girlfriend, that when they come to visit you, to be prepared to leave their cigarettes at the morgue.

Second hand smoke could irritate the tonsils, and is very bad for everyone.

Yes, it sounds like he is highly allergic to the smoke. You should try asking your parents to be considerate enough to smoke outside until you move out and try burning smoke candles, you can get them pretty cheap at wal-mart, but they are candles that you light that absorb the cig. smoke. Or try turning on a fan with a window open to ventilate the place.
