I can post a question which clearly points out serious flaws in the islamic religion. Christians will then tell me how right I am and how much sense my statement makes. I can then turn around and apply the very same logic to point out a flaw within christianity... and then all of a sudden I somehow stopped making sense even though the logic is exactly the same. Not only that but I am either a troll or in the grip of Satan according to their ideas.
Why such a change in views?
It discourages me to see people agreeing with me because the idea expressed is a shared belief. I think people should agree with me if what I say makes sense logically. And if it does make sense over here, it should also make sense over there. The laws of math and science do not change depending on location, culture, or religion. Why should the laws of logic be any different?

Mr I work for Jesus, this question is not about how the world got here. I am not concerned with it. I was not there at the time and neither were you. As far as I am concerned, the earth has always been here. But I have no belief for or against it. It is something that I do not need to answer to satisfy my natural curiosity. I do know, however, that believing a fairy tale that explains something I do not know is NOT A GOOD SOLUTION. So there goes YOUR logic.

dillingere, thank you for providing a good example of logical fallacies. You have attempted to discredit my statement by associating it with my supposed sin. This is what you call poisoning the well. According to this fallacy, a supposed flaw on my part is reason enough to believe that something I say must be wrong.

John 1:1, I liked your response because you attempted to point out a logical fallacy in my original question, which of course would be 'begging the question'. However, it is a matter of semantics. I am not saying or trying to imply ALL Christians. When I say Christians in this sense, I am making a direct reference to the Christians who proved themselves to be guilty. My apologies if the wording threw you off.

John, this is not a matter of MY logic versus THEIR logic. There is only one kind of logic. You cannot have contrasting or opposing logics without changing the definition of what logic means. The strong difference here is that some people will believe what makes sense even if it means they were originally wrong and then have to reevaluate their beliefs. Others will only believe what they want to and instead try to twist logic in a way that supports what they have predetermined to be true. This is not logic; it is begging the question.

They are taught to be ignorant, they are encouraged not to question, they are forbidden from thinking, they are simply not capable of logic thought.
Look at the supposed superstars of Christianity. No matter how many PhD's in Theology they have they are still totally illogical in their thinking.
Lee Strobel, Hank Hannegraff, Charles Spurgeon, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, etc etc etc..... all very intelligent but still totally illogical in their thinking. The most amateur atheist can stump the most learned Xians.

No one likes being told they are wrong or hypocritical, Christian or otherwise. It's not a religious flaw- it's simply human nature.
Not all Christians are the same just as all Atheists and Islamics are not the same.
Are your questions being misconstrued? Some people take offense quite easily around here- maybe you should approach your "this is why Christians are hypocrites" kind of questions with a little more tact.
No offense or anything- I'm just trying to give you an unbiased viewpoint; I'm a Christian but I don't remember being upset by anything you have posted, so maybe the problem is with them, and not you.

I'm sorry that is the only representation of christianity you have been exposed to. Sad fact is, lots of people can say that. People adopt the beliefs they hold true to without research on their part and when a wrench is cast into their shared view that upsets the apple cart they resort to the same ole same ole. I can tell you that things have happened to me in my life which lead me to believe totally in a creator. That is my logic, even though you may disagree with it. And there would not be anything you could ever say to sway me to make me believe otherwise. But I donot resort to saying that what you believe isnt logical, because it is in your own mind.

People believe they're right and their brains will actively distort or selectively perceive information in such a way that reinforces their beliefs. Christians will see the logic behind an attack on islam and consider it logically devastating because they agree with it. If the same reasons are brought against them their minds will have trouble with inner conflict so they will make excuses or distort the way it applies to them.
A lot of this is due to Cognitive Dissonance. Here is an introductory chapter thing about it:

Religion is not as rigidly bound as scientific laws or mathematical equations. There are many different and probably mostly correct laws of religion that are vast and varied. The problem is, religion is subject to the indivdual perspective. It therefore has a more fluid or less rigid set of laws that govern it. Every religion probably has some amount of truth to it somewhere or it would not make sense to any of it's followers. We may never know which one is the truth until we are given it by God on Judgement day. Won't we all look silly if God says you are all right and you are all wrong....

I have asked myself this same question many times. I believe it is because as a christian we are taught to believe we are right no matter what. Granted not all christians are that close-minded. When the hypocrisy hits home we don't like to admit it. Have a great day!

To begin with spirituality and faith do not rise or fall on the laws of math and science. When it comes to logic the same laws can be applied with differing results based on the original premisee.
Because the the basis of Christianity and Islam are different one would not expect logic to produce the same results.
For example you question is dripping with mendacity because you assume the basic premis that all Christians are hypocrites.

Deuteronomy 5:7 Thou shalt have none other gods before me.8 Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth:
9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,10 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.
I am sorry i am not sure if i ever agree with you or not.I am convinced that the GOD i serve is the true living GOD.I know no matter what another religion brings up i know its just a flaw.
there is nothing that contradicts the bible. The bible is the word of GOD.Sometimes u misunderstand it and say its wrong but it never is wrong.
Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."
John 3:16 .“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life".so when we believe in JESUS we have eternal life.JESUS lived a sinless life and gave up his life as a sacrifice so we can be sin free. Ask JESUS to come into your heart and forgive ur sins and cleanse ur past with his blood.
With a simple prayer like above u can be saved.JESUS loves u and wants u to be saved.

The laws of logic should not change. It just goes to show you that they are not speaking from logic, but from their own intolerance of non-likeminded thoughts.
"Yes! That Isslamm is bad! and bologna! I agree!"
They want to believe that is true because they feel it only serves to validate their own beliefs. They are not truly seeking knowledge.

very very good logic here.
I am logical christian and I feel the same way. I see my own hypocrisy and I laugh at it. I am able to admit the flaws in my religion...others cannot.
would you like to post more of your ideas? I'd like to read some more!
