We have one cat now, and we would like to get a kitten also. I have two opportunities to get a kitten. We really want a kitten, so we can raise them from a baby. We can either get a 6/7 wk old orange male kitten available to us through my sisters inlaws. These kittens will be ready in a week or two. They havent been kept very close track off, been in closed in barn, w/their mother, and only visited on ocassion, but are litter box trained.
The other kitten comes from someone in the Craigslist community, is a little black 9 wk old girl kitten, the last of the litter, is box trained and very well socialized living in a house w/its mom and people, (adults and kids).
I'm leaning towards the black kitten, as it has been better socialized. Any advice woudl be great

I am not familiar with Craigslist but the cat that has not been around people very much will probably be a little wild to start with but you can change this behavior with a little patience and TLC. At least you know first hand where the kitten came from, who owns it, what kind of care it has had and so on. People on the Internet will tell you what they think you want to hear just to get you to buy what they are selling.

It's important for kittens to have the alone time with their mother, as the male kitten has. Taking the kittens away from their mother too early causes problems later on when they are adults, more likely to be mean. It's also a plus that they haven't been visited so much yet, giving them the max. time with their mother. 6 or 7 weeks is still really young, so when you finally do get them, they will still be able to be socialized fairly easy =)
I would also consider the sex of the cat you already own, typically same sex cats do not get along as well as opposite sexed cats do.

It is probably better to go with the more socialized kitten, especially if there are children in your home. However when choosing your new kitten you should consider your older cats personality and try to find a good match. If your older cat is not used to having other cats around there will be a transition period while he adjusts to the little one!

Well, if you are wanting an indoor cat, then the kitten from Craigslist seems like the best option.
The kitten in the barn, is used to being outdoors, and may not adjust well to being kept indoors with people, when it's not what the kitten is used to.

The best combo is two males. They will play and wrestle and sleep side by side. I have two male cats and they love each other, the one was not used to other cats but quickly learned the ropes from the older cat. Female cats sometimes do not take well to other cats and can be moody they especially don't always take well to kittens, the worst combo would have to be two female cats. The male kitten is the safer bet.

You are on the right track. The socialized kitten will probably be a better match for your household. Kitten's with little or no human interaction can be shy and skittish for the rest of their lives. I know, I have one and I love her dearly, but if anyone comes into my house, she is a little ghost. You would never know that I have a cat living with me.

To tell you the truth, I'd take them both. Its usually easier to have two kittens than one, because they an use that incredible kitten energy and mischievousness on each other.
Your older cat may not appreciate the playfulness of a kitten wanting to use him for stalk-and-pounce practice.

the black kitten seems like a better choice. litter box trained, socialized, so when geting the kitten and your cat in a room the bonding wouldn't be so dificult.

Get them both! It would be cute to watch them grow up together and they would have a great time playing with each other! I know that my answer will not really help you to make your decision between the two.:( But I have six cats myself, lol. I would probably have 20 if not for my boyfriend telling me NO MORE, lol. The way I see it, both kittens need a home......

I always prefer the one with the least chance at adoption. Thats just how I work..But its all about what will work for you!
Male cats seem to be alot of fun also..I have two males and a female, and she is the queen of the house whos main duty is to sit around and look pretty. She isnt much for play..:)
