Far not everything we can buy for money - so use your imagination and create something simple, but at the same time from the bottom of your heart. If you have a very serious relationship, i advice you to make memories together and make a day precious for the future, so that both of you will enjoy sitting, recollecting the day.
Write a poem for him, or even better a song - with your own words and music, sing it by your own, make him smile whole evening so that he will appreciate definitely.
Best of luck to you!

Here's something creative that will be appreciated and you will have fun doing:
Make up a crossword puzzle and have all the hints be personal inside moments and jokes that only you two would know about. Put it on a poster board and add some clipart and some pictures to it!
The crossword puzzle could be time consuming and a bit frustrating ... you could do the same idea with a WORDSEARCH or WORDFIND puzzle.
Put your computer skills to work! Use Excel, get clipart from Yahoo Images Search, copy them, and reformat them, use a gluestick to put on posterboard.
Use graph paper, and pictures from magazines if you are not as good on the computer, and it will give it a homemade feeling.

I have the same problem with my boyfriend. I don't know if you have a store named things remembered around your area. But they engrave a lot of stuff and its actually not too terribly expensive. They have a lot of things from card holders to flask and shot glasses and beer mugs that you can engrave. I will be doing some of that, and james avery has a lot of nice things too. Try to think of out of the box things to get him. For example my boyfriend is seriously a koolade whore lol. I bought a huge pitcher and put a big bag of sugar in it with a ton of koolade packages. He LOVED it and used every bit of it. Maybe theres a concert or sporting event he would like to go to as well.

What are his interests? Do you share a hobby? Try making something for him with your own two hands. If he has money and material things, he should realize how dear such a gift would be. They come from the heart, not the wallet. Now when all else fails...lingerie might work.

Put some thought into things you have done together. A nice photo album with pics of the two of you together or make a CD of his favorite songs. Homemade gifts speak from the heart.

I wouldn't give him something that $$ can buy. I would give him something that it cant. Like your heart. Once I made a whole book of poems (love) for my man. He loved em. They showed him how much I cared, and that I took out the time to do it for him. Either that, or you two could make a porn together. lol Men love em for some reason.

A photo of him and you together, in a frame hand made by you. You can take a wood frame and paint something like The best guy or I love you on it.
Then cook him his favorite food and with romantic music in the bacround have dinner together. Then give him what everyman want... a romantic night. My dad likes to light candles in the room but I don't know if he likes it or is it more for my mom

Cook him a nice dinner! You know what they say...the way to a man's heart is through his stomach! He will see how much time and effort you put in to it, so it's sure to impress him! Plus, hello, if you have any notions of marrying this guy, it's good to show him your "domestic side." ;o)
Follow dinner with dessert and/or champagne in bubble bath!
