What Are The Symptoms Of Anemia?
A person with anemia will feel tired and weak because the body's tissues are being starved of oxygen. In fact, fatigue is the main symptom of most types of anemia. The severity of symptoms is in part related to the severity of anemia. Mild anemia can occur without symptoms and may be detected only during a medical exam that includes a blood test.
Symptoms of anemia include:
* Fatigue
* Weakness
* Fainting
* Breathlessness
* Heart palpitations (rapid or irregular beating)
* Dizziness
* Headache
* Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
* Difficulty sleeping
* Difficulty concentrating
Common signs include:
* Pale complexion
* The normally red lining of the mouth and eyelids fades in color
* Rapid heartbeat (tachycardiaAn abnormally rapid heart rate, usually defined as a rate greater than 100 beats per minute.An abnormally rapid heart rate, usually defined as a rate greater than 100 beats per minute. )
* Abnormal menstruation (either absence of periods or increased bleeding)
A simple blood test can tell if you have it or not.

Anaemia is a condition which occurs when you have an abnormally low amount of red blood cells. There is not usually just one reason for anaemia, but some causes could be heavy periods, a diet low in iron, internal bleeding (for example if you have an ulcer or a tumour), or a diet low in vitamin B12 or folic acid.
Because anaemia causes a shortage of oxygen, the main symptom is usually chronic tiredness and palpitations. Other symptoms you may get could include a pale appearance, shortness of breath and dizziness, fainting, angina, a red, sore tongue and a reduced sense of taste. Bruising isn't usually a symptom.
Anaemia can be detected by a blood sample being taken. An analysis of the red blood cells is usually included with the result of the test.
If you are anaemic, a doctor will usually prescribe iron tablets. It's a fairly common condition but is easily treated. If you are at all worried about your health, go and see your doctor - he or she will know better than your friend if there is anything wrong.

I am a haematology biomedical scientist by training and have an MSc in clinical oncology.
Anaemia is very common in young females even when they have normal periods. Healthy men rarely become anaemic because the amount of iron absorbed from a normal diet more than balances the iron lost in cells shed from the skin and linings of hollow organs. The additional blood loss in menstruation means that most young women are borderline iron deficient.
You don't mention if you are vegetarian but if so you are at even greater risk. The quantity of iron in a foodstuff is not a reliable guide to the amount that will be absorbed - heme-bound iron (found in red meat) is absorbed more readily than any other form. (Lest any vegetarians write in accusing me of attacking their lifestyle - this is not a criticism of vegetarian diets, it is an objective statement of fact.)
If you are pale and you have heavy periods it would be wise to see your GP and have a full blood count done. It is a very small needle in a vein, a few mls of blood and the results are ready in a day or so. If you are anaemic this can almost always be corrected simply by taking tablets; you will only need iron injections if you are severely anaemic and then you would probably feel ill.
Go get the blood test - the sooner the better.

Anemia is not the only cause for bruises, poor circulation is one of them. Anemia is very low red blood cell count, this can happen due to a number of events, among them indulging in hazardous fad diets that promise to make you lose weight fast and anorexia, or iron deficiency. Read the symptoms below, although all that medical jargon might be difficult to understand and will only confuse you.
You might ask your parents to take you to the doctor, a little prevention goes a long way. Sometimes when a condition remains undetected or untreated, by the time it is apparent, it is too late to do anything about it.
Take care

fair skinned people seem to bruise more easily because the bruises show up more. Those are not signs of anemia, they are signs of an active lifestyle. Anemia results in things like severe fatigue, sometimes shortness of breath when you are just sitting, and a very rapid heartrate, like over 140 beats per minute. I doubt you are anemic. When you go for your your first pap test with a gynecologist, ask him to draw blood for a cbc, that will show that you are perfectly fine.

If you bruise easily that could be a sign of anemia but that doesn't totally mean you have it. Many women are pale and bruise easily. To test for it they just draw a blood sample. I am sure if you had it your doctor would have told you when he ran your lab tests with your yearly physcial exam. If your doc didn't run any labs when you had your phyiscal and you think you might have it then call and see him. You can look up more info on it by doing a web search for Anemia.

anemia has a lot of weird symptoms. bruising easily &being pale are a couple of them. also dizziness, &passing out. do you ever feel dizzy? if so, take an iron pill, or a vitamin, or eat something enriched with vitamins {like beans, for example} &see if you feel better.
if not, the best &only way to for sure know is the doctor.
i'm the first girl in my family on my mommy's side in the past few generations that wasn't kissed by the anemia faery. my whole life i supposedly was, then i got my finger pricked &thankfully, i'm not.
i'm just pale, bruise easily, ¬ in the best shape {which is why i get worn out so easy}. hahah. good luck, girl.

Yes you could have anemia. Iron-deficiency anemia is the most common type of anemia in the world, affecting mostly women, young children, and older people. It is estimated that 15 percent of menstruating women are affected.
A blood test is the only way to tell. I suggest you get one- it can become a serious condition if left untreated.

If you are tired all the time as well as pale, chances are you have it but you will need a test to find out one way or the other. And make sure you tell the doc about the bruising!
