Not likely. If people just wanted an answer they would search for it themselves, not use Y!A. Many questions are used to bring up issues or to make a statement. If I give a simple answer without an explanation I don't know how they will understand it. OK, that may not be a sermon, but is probably seen the same way.
For example if I am asked if Mormons believe that Joseph Smith is a God and I say yes what would you think? That needs explanation. That was an example and is not true (or unknown) by the way.
If I am asked if homosexuals will go to hell and I simply say no what will you think?
There are also times where I think sincere questioners would benefit from some words of a prophet (this is not one of those times).

Or cut and paste an entire book in. Apparently not, but I do not read them if they are that long anyway, so the person's answer is wasted and their point goes unknown. I feel the same about someone posting a question, only to find the comments are a book or a sermon or a personal editorial.

It depends on how much evidence is needed to formulate an opinion about the question being asked. You have to admit, certain questions take more than a simple answer to get ones point/beliefs across. I could easily tell you certain things about certain subjects, but without Scriptural reference, it would look like something regurgitated from a book. I am like you in that i wish more answers could be simpler, but alas, we cannot defend what we believe in without studying "...to show thyself APPROVED unto God. A workman (believer) needeth NOT BE ASHAMED, RIGHTLY dividing (interpreting) the word of truth."

Is it possible to as a question in any forum on here and not get a complaining sermon? It seems like everyone here is in a chronic bad mood!

Yes it is possible. However, depending on the question asked, some people will not lose the opportuntity to give a sermon.

some folk are just long winded.
others are short in their attention span.
others do not like to READ a lot of text on a monitor.
some feel obliged to GIVE comprehensive answers just so there is NO mistake about what they are explaining
you seem to fall into the category of one who doesn't like to read a lot of text.
yes it is possible

Yes.
Sometimes 2 or 3 words speak more than lines and lines of reading.

Some answers require explanation. Surely, you would NOT just want me to tell you my belief but yet, not tell you why or the background. Peace.
