the debate over this question will never end. for the most part it is 18 because the kids usually know someone, i myself i had my mother or sister when i was young.after i was 18 i was in the army and booze was real easy to find around someone would always buy for me then when i was 19 i lived in germany where this is pretty much no drinking age. but this question is all personal opinion which i have never really thought about because i always had access to it no matter my age!

In the UK there is no legal drinking age, just a law prohibiting people under the age of 18 buying alcohol.
In France, it is perfectly legal to introduce a 5 year old child to the joy of drinking wine with certain foods.
France has the lowest percentage of alcohol related crimes.
Perhaps banning substances is not the correct way of dealing with the problem.

Yes, I think it should be lowered to 18.
1. 18 year olds have the right to join our military, and may be required to join our military if there is a draft, so I think they deserve the right to drink alcohol.
2. I've lived in Spain and Australia where the drinking is 18 and young people are more laid back and responsible about drinking. I think 18-21 year olds in the US tend to glorify drinking because it's not legal and there is a "thrill" to breaking the law and partaking in an activity you're not supposed to be doing. Therefore, you see and hear about all types of reckless kids who drink insane amounts of alcohol because they think it's cool and end up dead, in the hospital, or in auto accidents. However, in both Spain and Australia, 18-21 year olds have a more laid back approach because it's accepted that they can drink and did not see the need to partake in reckless/risky behavior just to be cool and impress their peers.

Yes i think it should be 18 cos i come from Ireland and the drinkin age is 18 because there are alot more harmful stuff out there other than alcohol like drugs which will just ruin your life and because the drinkin age is 21 it encourages more young people to go on drugs because they are way 2 easy to get than alcohol

I think so. If 18 is considered an adult, then why not. Heck 18 year olds can get married, but cant order a drink? Doesnt make sense to me.

YES!
An 18 year old is old enough to join the armed forces and die for our country, but they cannot have a drink?
An 18 year old is old enough to get married - a HUGE decision, but cannot have a drink?
An 18 year old is old enough to walk into a voting booth and help decide our next president, but cannot have a drink?
An 18 year old is old enough to purchase a gun, but cannot have a drink?
An 18 year old is old enough to have legal permission and a large responsibility to operate a motor vehicle for two years, but cannot have a drink?
An 18 year old is old enough to move off to college, make his own decisions about money, time management and life in general, but cannot have a drink?
You've got to be kidding me.....
Only in America!

No. We have enough problems with bad young drivers and DWI's. Imagine if 18/19 yr olds were able to legally drink. I don't think most under 21 are responsible enough to handle the right to legally drink. I think many minors drink, but the fear of getting caught may keep them from being too stupid about it and minimize the amount of underage drinkers out driving.

In Canada the drinking age is 19...so lowering it to 18 will just increase high school drinking.

maybe they should look at Europe and start driving a car at 18 and drink beer at 16 and liquor at 18. Making something illegal will make people want to do it more.
