when did god create the angels? particularly satan. in the book of genesis we learn that on the first day god created heaven and earth. is my assumption wrong in that god was alone before this? why/why not? if angels exist, why did god create man? angels must have existed before man, otherwise satan would not have been in the garden of eden to tempt eve. is my assumption correct there? also i'm confused by those who say god can do anything, but when confronted with the story of creation they say that a day could be a thousand years. doesn't this imply that god needed longer than seven days to complete the universe? could he have not completed each phase in a day? if not, then god can't do anything.

Angels were created before mankind and the universe. Angels are not a race but a host (or army). They are called the sons of God (Job 1:6), not of other angels. They were created (Job 38:6,7) at some point in time before the creation of the physical world. The angels were created in a state of holiness (Jude 6). They are innumerable (Heb. 12:22).

Were the six days of creation literal 24-hour days, or were they geological ages? Or were they days of "dramatic vision" during which the creation account was revealed to Moses?

No scientific evidence has ever refuted the concept that they were literal solar days. The expression "the evening and the morning" points to 24-hour days. Everywhere else in the OT these words mean normal days. Adam lived through the seventh day and died in his 930th year, so the seventh day could not have been a geological age. Wherever the "day" is used with a number in the OT ("first day," etc.) it means a literal day. When God commanded Israel to rest on the Sabbath day, He based the command on the fact that He had rested on the seventh day, after six days of labor (Exo_20:8-11). Consistent interpretation here requires the same meaning of the word "day."

A difficulty, however, is that the solar day as we know it may not have begun until the fourth day (vv. 14-19).

As far as the Bible is concerned, the creation of the heavens and the earth is undated. The creation of man is undated also. However, genealogies are given, and, even allowing for possible gaps in the genealogies, man could not have been on the earth for the millions of years demanded by evolutionists.

The story of Genesis is just the story of the creation of this planet and we people. God said when He made man, "Let US make man in OUR image." So no, He was not alone.
Angels did exist before this planet, God made us in His image, not the angels. And yes, angels also are eternal beings. Yes, satan was around before man and did walk the earth.
The statement quoted here is 2 Peter 3:8 and it is stated as a reference to the eternity of the after life not the creation story. And the fact is, that God only used six days not seven. I believe He could have done everything at once, but He took time in molding us into His image. So the thousand year statement is not in reference to Genesis.
So, this should answer that YES God can do anything and everything.

"when did god create the angels? particularly satan."

Prior to the creation of the physical/temporal universe.
And I say "prior to" because before time existed as we understand it, is what we call Eternity Past, because we have no way of being able to determine the passage of time, or if there is time at all.

"in the book of genesis we learn that on the first day god created heaven and earth. is my assumption wrong in that god was alone before this? why/why not?"

No, because he would have created the Angels and Satan beforehand.

if angels exist, why did god create man?

Angels are God's servants to tend to man, whom He made specifically in His image to be His friend. Angels in their spiritual form, are described as being somewhat bizarre in form, not like us at all.

"angels must have existed before man, otherwise satan would not have been in the garden of eden to tempt eve. is my assumption correct there?"

Yes, your assumption is correct. Also, Satan would have needed "time" to convince a third of the angels to join him in his rebellion against God.

"also i'm confused by those who say god can do anything, but when confronted with the story of creation they say that a day could be a thousand years. doesn't this imply that god needed longer than seven days to complete the universe? could he have not completed each phase in a day? if not, then god can't do anything"

Most people who say that have grown up in public school believing Evolutionary theory which comprises of a multitude of spinoff disciplines. When you've been told that a rock in your backyard is 2 million years old, and the human race is a little less younger than that, it doesn't match up with what the bible says, and therefore you can get confused.

The bible says the world and all that's in or on it was made in 6 days. The same word for day is used elsewhere in the old testament to mean exactly that...one day.

God created Jesus as his first creation and the story is that the next to be created was Satan. Only that means rebell and probably is not his name but Nickolaus probably is.
Then billions of other spirit persons were created and this whole material universe appeared. Just as an ant sees a very small world and is unable to fully comprehend a human,.
I mean does he see the palm of his hand or the end of his foot? and know all about men?
This myriad or millions of spirit persons much different than us decides to make a real flesh and blood material planet.
We are probably in a labortory in someones back room.
That includes the whole Universe and this planet.
They start to make water, plants, animals and at last humans.
It is a crowning achievement.
Job 38:7 When the morning stars cried out together. and all the sons of God began shouting in applause.
1 corinthians 4:9 we are a theatrial spectical to angels and to men.
So the angels were very much interested in this little experiment.
Jesus was created the almighty has always been here, these are the scriptures to prove it.

(Colossians 1:15-17) . . .5 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation; 16 because by means of him all [other] things were created in the heavens and upon the earth, the things visible and the things invisible, no matter whether they are thrones or lordships or governments or authorities. All [other] things have been created through him and for him. 17 Also, he is before all [other] things and by means of him all [other] things were made to exist,

(Revelation 3:14) 14 “And to the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ce´a write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God,

(Acts 7:55) 55 But he, being full of holy spirit, gazed into heaven and caught sight of God’s glory and of Jesus standing at God’s right hand,

(Revelation 1:1) 1 A revelation by Jesus Christ, which God gave him, to show his slaves the things that must shortly take place. And he sent forth his angel and presented [it] in signs through him to his slave John,

(Revelation 7:10) 10 And they keep on crying with a loud voice, saying: “Salvation [we owe] to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb
They are still intereest in how we do as their creation.

Yes, angels existed before man. In the context and meaning of the text, "In the beginning," (our beginning, not God's), refers to when God began to create the heavens and the earth. He did this after the angels were created. And yes, God can do anything. Once again, in the context of Scripture, one day consisted of the evening and the morning. Some people may say that it took God six thousand years to create, but I say, according to the Bible, that is not so. A day is a day to man. God made the earth for man. So He did it in six days, and rested on the seventh. Otherwise, we'd all be working for six thousand years, and resting in the seventh thousand as a sabbath. Ridiculous concept.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. The earth was without form.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day

On the first day, he created light and darkness.
You notice that this was before the sun and the moon. This is a spiritual light and darkness. Man was made on the 6th day AFTER everything else.

And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Who can measure time? What is a day to God?
God gave us these things FOR us. What is time to God? A lifetime is but a vapour to him.
God is without beginning and without end. Man cannot comprehend eternity, let alone how long God took to make things.

Lucifer was a cherub with a huge responsbility to herald the angels in God's kingdom. A description of Lucifer before his fall is best described in Ezekiel 28:13-19. He was beautiful, until his God-given beauty made him vain (the first record of sin in His kingdom) and eventually wanted to be like God. Hence, Lucifer was admonished and fell out of heaven, becoming the vile Satan (Isaiah 14:12-16) that tempted Eve in the garden of Eden. The timeline of when Satan existed and the encounter with Eve has been debated many times, but I found that the following website may be able to help you develop a timeline: http://www.christiangeology.com/satan.html

Angels were created before man, but, unlike man, angels were not given a soul, humans were.
God was never alone. In the book,Genesis,He said, "Let "us"make man in "our" image." "Us", meaning, the Father(God), the son,(also God),& the Holy Spirit,( also God).
As per the length of a day, does 24 hors constitute a day, or does 1000 years constitute a day?
Paradoxially,it could be either/or.
I don't believe that He created earth in 7000 years, because as He'd already created things like trees, flowers, animals etc., those things had time to reproduce in time given the seasons He'd also established,ie; pollenation,or planting inthe spring, reaping in autumn.
Yes, God "can" do literally, "anything."
It is only the human mental capacity that attempts to confine what God can do, based on their own limitations of concepts.
God has also said, that one day, all things will be revealed to us.
Now, do you suppose He meant tommorrow? Of course,He meant tommorrow,But, probably not the tommorrow the next 24 hours will bring.
We cannot put God in a box,His ways are not our ways,His thoughts are not our thoughts, our limitations are not His limitations.

"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." -- Genesis 1:1

This does not give a time scale of how long God took to do this creation, or when the angels were created -- after all, the angels are not part of the physical universe. And neither does it say that this creation is included in the first day's events.

When we read the next verse, the NIV gives a hint at something most miss.

"Now the earth BECAME formless {confused or waste} and empty,..." {substituting the marginal suggestion "became" for "was"}

From Scriptures like Isaiah 45:18 and 1 Corinthians 14:33, it is apparent that God did NOT create the earth in this awful condition.

Therefore, this indicates that there was a length of time great enough for something to happen to God's beautiful creation. What happened? When did it happen? And who made it happen?

From Job 38:4-7, God questions Job about the creation of the earth. And he mentions how "the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy." If this is as most believe, a reference to the angels, then clearly God had created the angels long before he created the universe. And very long before he renewed the earth, as presented in Genesis 1:3-2:1.

And from Jude 1:6, and other Scriptures, it is also apparent that the angels were the first inhabitants of he earth. Lucifer was given charge over the earth and all its contents (Luke 4:5-6), with possibly a third of all the angels with him (Revelation 12:4).

It is sometime after that charge was given, and before God renewed the face of the earth, that Satan rebelled and destroyed the earth, making it uninhabitable and a waste (Genesis 1:2).

As to why God created man, a hint is given in Genesis (again), chapter 2, verses 18 & 20:
And the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him."... Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him.

Like man, God wants a comparable helper. Though the angels are powerful and intelligent beings, they are just not God. Before God had created the angels, the one now called the Father and the one now called Jesus, were alone.

And as for the time it took God to renew the earth, rather than think that God required six days, one should ask, why did God take six days?

Some have noticed a pattern in the six days. I believe there is some template reflected in the six days as compared to the 6000 years of human history since Adam. There is some sort of symbolism in the time God took to do this.

A Comment:
The 6/7000 year creation week theory is ridiculous. Some people suggest this to combine evolution with creation. But there are billions of species of creatures on the earth, and 6000 years only has a little over 2 million days. Therefore, God would have to have many generations of development each day. If God can do that, then he can renew the earth in six days. The one does not make anything any easier on God than the other.

God did not NEED any length of time to do what he did. He CHOSE that length of time to do it in.

Our concept of time is not relevant when speaking about GOD. GOD exists outside of time as we know it. GOD can do anything and there are no writings regarding things such as satan and so forth because we were not there (man was not a witness) therefore there is no record; written or oral.

Man walked freely in the garden with GOD, it is safe to say they knew of their origin. Genesis speaks of this. There are many different views of when angles and the like were created but as you state it is clear they were here before man.

Hello, I answered your second question.
