The doctor probably said "the activator" it's a very small instrument used to move the bone back into place. It has less pain then manual manipulation. I've enclosed a link where you can read about this treatment. It really works very good and you will feel Practically nothing.

The answer is: what you're referring to is not called an agitator--it's called an activator. It's a device used by chiropractors to "deliver consistent low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments" (see activator.com, below, for a picture of the device and the treatment).
Theoretically, it helps the chiropractor to align vertebrae in your back and in your neck (and in the case of your neck, to align without using a twisting neck manipulation).

I believe that it is the same as what my physiotherapist uses on me. Basically it is two little compresses that are placed on the irritated area. They tense all of your muscles and then release them. Do not worry it is pretty much pain free and only lasts for about ten minutes.

i think it a bed that has water in it with a type marble in it the moves all around and massages your back
