What kind of Microphone is the best to get for Recording audio for films.?

I am looking for a good microphone for recording audio for films and have no idea what kind to get, anyone have any suggestions

Different mics do different things better than others, but you might start with a good multi-pattern condenser. The pattern choices offer some versatility (omnidirectional, cardioid and fig 8) in recording.

Make sure that your camera or mixer can provide phantom power.

This is not an easy answer. Just as a photographer will have to know what type of camera lense to use to shoot his picture. A film maker will have to choose which specific type of microphone to use to shoot a fim with. There are dozens of various specialized microphones that are used on the set. Most of these are split for exact purpose like certain sound frequency, directional and unidirectional, noise canceling, etc. If you are looking for all purpose general use, then just get a studio grade film microphone. These are the large microphone on a metal pole you see on TV sets.
