For the record, Catholics are Christians. Therefore, the purpose of your survey should be to determine the difference of music preference between Catholic Christians and non-Catholic Christians.
I am partial to smooth jazz.
Exactly what is it you hope to prove with this NON SCIENTIFIC survey?

Catholics are Christians. I'm Catholic.
Nouveau Flamenco. Celtic.
Gregorian Chant. And the kind of music done by Vanessa-Mae and Bond which doesn't fit neatly into any sort of category.

I like soft music from the 70's. (Bread, Gino Vanelli, Christopher Cross.)
Music from the Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos.
Gregorian Chant. I could listen to this forever. It is so beautiful to the soul. I wish all could hear it.
Also, opera is good if not to dramatic.
Amy Grant is an inspiration.
Enya very soft and elegant.
Bouble-- He sings like Frank Sinatra.
No hard rock or perverse language or something that is gritty or repulsive.

Although I find Robin song cacophonous, I like them for their sheer *********.
I love the Meadow Lark and the Red-winged Blackbird (that one sounds techno)

<> There is NOTHING in Catholic belief and practice that states one "has to" abstain from music for nine days. < tradition or what?>> I guess your dad's idea of a "sign of mourning" is abstaining from music for nine days. This is your dad's tradition, not a Catholic Tradition.

Try listening to living words of the lyrics from songs of the unchain melody with "The power of love" like "Take me to your heart"- "When will I see you again" - "I'll be there"- "I'll stand by you"-"Everything is beautiful" - "The morning after"
