My car doesn't accelerate like it should anymore. You would never believe it was a VW Jetta Turbo! It kind of hesitates to go, also my gas is gone in a flash!!!! I have a 2002 VW Jetta, I haven't gotten an oil change since like....October 2006 I think. Now, that I have some funds to take care of my car the way I should have done, I dont want the "Oil Experts" @ EZ Lube to tell me anything that they think I'll believe. So, if any of you have any advice, please do share! ( They told me that I needed an oil change & a fuel filter change). Thank you!

go to a vw dealer and let them give you a diagnostic test.

Well, it sounds like you need to deal not just with an oil change but with a regular maintenance schedule if you plan to keep that car for a while.

1) Oil should be changed every other month - regardless of how much you drive.. (cheap insurance for a long engine life)

2) Tune up: (which is prob. what you have also deferred) is likely the best thing for you. Clean the injectors (I assume it has fuel injection) and replace the air cleaners if they are dirty or more then 6 months old

3) Fuel filter (maybe) but those are good forabout a year or so if your gas is routine.

Here's the short version.

When you don't maintain the car it wears out faster. For example if you don't check or change your oil, the engine wears out faster for lack of lubrication or because the oil has small pieces of engine grit. Faster wear means more space between the parts that need to fit tightly. (and this is not reverseable). That means that more oil slips thru the cracks (blue smoke and fouled plugs). This means that the car runs poorly.

If you want to keep the car going, you should

1) Check the oil every other fillup. If you change it as I noted above it should not be going down. If it does you have a leak.
2) Check the water in the radiator at the same time
3) Check your tire inflation (mileage goes to heck really fast if your tires are underinflated) once a month. Over inflation will lead to excessive tire wear and poor traction.

Those are the basics...

And good going at the 'oil experts' their job is also to upsell you things. But ask them to look for leaks when the do the draining..

definately time for oil change. I am not sure about the fuel filter but at least an air filter change might really help. There is a difference between air filter and fuel filter. Air filters do get dirty and that makes it hard for your engine to get the right mixture of air with fuel causing it to be sluggish and use up more fuel.

I would try that first and give it about 3 or 4 days and if you are still having problems try high grade gas, full tank of it and maybe some fuel injector cleaner(you buy it at Wal-mart and pour into your gas tank). If you are still having problems then maybe the fuel filter needs to be looked at.

definitely i would change the oil and fuel filter. the oil change wont likely solve the problem (vw1.8 turbos are prone to sludge if you do not change the oil "frequently" with "full synthetic" oil trust me its worth it ) the fuel filter could be the reason the car is not accelerating normally. if you are experiencing increased turbo lag i would say it could be the fuel filter. if you have poor acceleration even in the upper RPM band you may have a bad turbo our you could have a serious sludge problem (from not keeping up on the oil changes) if you are driving over 5000 miles on synthetic oil or of your using regular oil i would say definitely check for sludge buildup, the placement of the turbo heats the oil excessively and therefore the oil does not last long in these engines always change the oil at 5000 miles and use synthetic only.

You may need and oil change but it sounds like the fuel filter for sure you may also want them to replace the air filter unless they say it's clean. I replaced mine(fuel filter) and got a lot better performance/gas milage out of my car.

You need an oil change and more. You need a complete engine tune up or maybe more. Better get it checked out by a mechanic. That's a good ideal about the fuel filler.

Trade it in now!

You probably killed your car, quite stupid to have done that.

(You fuel filter advocates need to clue up- How about an air filter for chripes sake!)

Yes it will cost you a fortune because you are upside down on the payments and the dealer will figure out what you did and your warranty on the engine has been voided.

Just plain dumbas.. lazy waste of a good car!
