I just read an answer that said something to the effect of "I'm an atheist and I probably know your Bible better than you." That could, in many cases be true. Some true Christians are not equipped to grasp great deep parables, etc. in the Bible, but there are sheperds and church hierarchy to guide them. My point is that although atheists can know the Bible word for word, it does absolutely no good in the mind; God's word must penetrate the heart. I know I may be putting God's Holy Word out here for numerous libbys and atheists to smash, but I want some honest answers and am therefore willing to pick through the nonsense. Besides, most of our detractors should be in school right now anyway, right?

I don't know where everyone is getting this idea that Christians hate people. That's not what the Bible teaches, it doesn't say hate your neighbor or hate people who sin or hate sin. The Bible teaches to love your neighbor, a gentle hand turns away wrath, and that God hates sin. it isn't the job of Christians to pass judgment, it's God's job. I'm not saying that Christians don't pass judgment, no one is perfect. The Bible says that those who do not accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior will not be saved. Let me explain what that means to Christians. Jesus came to bring salvation to everyone who wanted it, all you have to do is trust that he will save you. If you do not want eternal life in heaven then you don't have to accept it. A lot of people blow up over this because it's a one time shot, there's no second chances. That's why you see crazy people out in the streets holding signs saying the end is near. People are just scared, they don't actually hate you or anyone else. To answer your question more directly, No. The Bible only tells Christians to have pity on the people who will not be saved. Luke 15:1-7 1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

the bible for the most part teaches morals and to do the right thing. s oyou are saying that only chritains are able to learn this from the bible. I know it may sound absurd to you but strip away as much holy element as you can from the bible, it turns into a two thousand year old collection of asop's (sp?) fables. true christains feel that god's love puts it's own extra meaning to the book, but the basic element and message is universal. just because a human does not believe in the big man, does not mean he cannot do what the big man represents. I wish more christains would understand this.

Actually, atheists are the ones who pointed out to me that Plato was the original author of the phrase 'Do unto others as you'd have done unto you'. Not Jesus. There are many atheistic scholars who teach about the Bible and have a much better understanding of it than many preachers, priests or whatever type of clergy.
I'm reading a book by two atheistic religious scholars, Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy , who teach about many things in the Bible I never learned in the 15+ years I had gone to church.

From your use of the word "libbys" I have to assume you mean liberals? FYI, not all liberals are atheists and not all conservatives are Christian. If you understood the writings in your own book, the one you seem to think of as useless in my hands, you will see that your own Jesus was a liberal in his age. For you to insert a political bias into your assertion is plain foolishness. I would suggest you quit listening only to the voices of the right wing of society and broaden your perspective a bit. You seem to be swayed by their propaganda.

The Bible is never useless, especially when it's in the hands of someone, anyone. And obviously, the more one opens it and reads it, the less "useless" it gets.

Uhhhh I'm in college and we got out yesterday so no I shouldn't be in school right now. I went to a catholic school for 12 years of my life and learned about the bible every damn year I was there I also learned all of the "heart penetrating stuff". I am now an Atheist. I know the bible and I also know WHY you believe it the way you do, but when it makes NO LOGICAL SENSE there has to be something behind it.

even Satan knows Gods word- word for word- he even tried to use it several times to Jesus- trying to get Jesus to sin on earth......Does that mean that he knows what Gods word means????Absolutely not! Why? Because he has not, nor ever will have the Spirit of the Living God living in him...therefore he will NEVER know what those words mean....the Holy Spirit reveals the revelation of those words to us in our hearts & if you havent received Christ...you'll never know!
