Fireball,. thumbs up to you for making me laugh. I did consult a dictionary, and nowhere in it is "athiest".

Sharon! =0) I know you're right, but I could not resist, after seeing it several times this morning.

That's a good definition.

**Wow I love these people trying to put down atheists and they don't even realize that they can't spell the word right.

The New Testament has already defined someone that lives in the world that isn't aligned with established religion, they are called the good Samaritan.
-One who obeys the Laws of the land, and is kind and helpful to others, like the teacher who gave his life in behalf of his fellow citizens.
I consider this forum as informal, so I don't use spellcheck even if I figure I have spelled a word wrong. If you want to judge people by their spelling - you are free to do so.
I do however, use spellcheck, when I write to my Government or Minister of Health or the News Paper I subscribe to. You see - as an atheist, I get actively involved in trying to make change for the better. A christian just goes to church where they whine and cry, waiting for God to do something about it.

I spell it like that all the time. I just hope who ever I am talking with will have a few more brain cells than I do and get the point. If we all know what a person is trying to say why do we spend some much time and energy focusing on how they say it?

Seeing the est ending, it would mean one who is the most athi. Now what does athi mean? Athis, according to Wikipedia:

"In Book V of Ovid's mock-epic Metamorphoses, Athis was a youth from India, son of Limnaee, a nymph of the River Ganges. During a quarrel between Perseus and Phineus, Perseus killed sixteen-year-old Athis, who was preparing to shoot his bow, with a log that had been smoldering in the middle of the altar."

So an athiest would be one who tries to shoot the most bows while having burning logs thrown at them.

edit - oddly enough, it has a spiritual connection...

One who does not believe that anything exists...this is a new breed that is resistant to any and all belief systems and should be approached with caution.

Who do we have to pray to to get the spell check fixed?

There are many missing words and some weird combinations added.

One who may disregard all insults hurled at her by those who cannot *spell*.

Fireball is always good for a laugh.

Perhaps they mean to say "I thi(r)st!" in reverent memory of the crucifixion.

It also reminds me of a rather Freudian slip in the direction of "priest".

Ah. An atheist is someone who doesn't believe in stuff. An athiest is someone who kicks puppies.

Puppy kicker.

I know how you are.
