try a product called SHOO which was developed for troops during the war and is sold around the Dunoon area which just happens to be in the Argyll Forest Area which is where most of the dammed wee blighters hang out as far as I am concerned

Any insect repellent will do, but the cream ones are better than sprays as not only do they hate the smell, but it's harder to pierce skin with a cream on it. And for a couple of days before you go, eat marmite! Sounds daft, but it'll make your skin excrete an odour they hate. If you're one of the anti-marmite brigade, a vitamin b complex pill will do the same thing.

I have found boots own brand to be very good and I use it myself. I also think its useful to get some repelant in the sunblock.
