If it wouldn't be too much of a hassle, perhaps you could carry along a child-sized toilet seat. You can find them at any super store like Walmart or Target. They usually have cute designs on them.

Last night we took our 2 and a half year old who has been potty trained for about 3 weeks to the fair. She told us she had to go potty so we took her to the porta potty. Well, she would NOT go in there, which i dont blame her...She said it was "yucky." And yes, it was. However, she will use toilets in restaurants and even the one at wal mart (that was gross). As moms we have to always be prepared for anything and everything so make sure you have some Purell in your purse at all times, an extra pair of panties, and a pull up or two for when you are in public and she wont use the toilet. It may seem like moving backwards but at least u save her the embarrassment of an accident in public which can do much more harm! I like the idea of bringing her little potty seat and letting her use that! I would use a pull up for the car rides tho just in case! Good luck!

a cross country trip your gonna have to use a diaper or pull up as public toilets will be few and far between.
this is something that will take a while. let her see you use one.that will help and avoid bathrooms with automatic flushes at first. this is the hardest part of potty training take her if she goes great if not keep her in a pull up,. while in the car she is very young and may not tell you in time while on the road. my son is four and we just made and 8 hour move to another state and he wore a pull up

They make portable toilet seats that are foldable and can fit into your purse in a little fabric pouch. I'd put it on your toilet at home and have her use it there a few times and then bring it with you every time you go out and have her use it. I'd also recommend bringing a potty chair on vacation with you to leave in your car--that way if she needs to go and a bathroom isn't nearby, you can pull over and she can go in the potty chair.

Take her to the store and have her pick out one of those potty chair seats that go right on the toilet. Have her use it at home till she gets used to it. A lot of kids go through a fear of public toilets. Maybe she heard one that was too loud or something. If you take one that is hers she won't be so scared. Have fun

its not familiar to her like her potty at home,or she may be a nervous pee'r and not want other people around while she goes potty. im 22 years old and still refuse to use a public bathroom, except when i was pregnant, then i had no choice, but i hate public bathrooms, its a type of anxiety, but thats what COULD be wrong, shell probably grow out of it, but if youre going across country, id put a pullup on her, because thats a long trip, and she might be sleeping and not tell you she has to go and what not..
