does anyone know the best place to get them short of taking them myself

try flickr.com - search for poppy or flower.

There are a few stock photo companies listed over on

www.makemoneywithphotos.com

You should get the pic you want for a dollar or so.

If you want a pic for free, try the search images section on yahoo and google although the use will be limited.
