Spirituality is seeing beyond this physical world and the gift of true spiritual understanding only comes from God.
This is the truth that those who love the truth will seek him and those who seek the truth will receive a gift from God called faith. From faith comes revelation and through God's revelation comes a true relationship with a living God.
The spiritual side of Chrisitanity is knowing God and receiving his revelation which is not of this world but from God and goes beyond the physical things of this world.

I have yet to see anyone who understands what religion really is. One responder here says her religion is Baptist. Well Baptist is a religious denomination but that is not religion. We could say that Baptist is one approach to religion, as are hundreds of other groups we could label.
Religion is certainly what people are doing but that doesn't say much. Then we move to spiritual. Well, they are all doing some kind of worship or song and dance or sacrament and ceremony; all done from a base of ideas that may have many or few things in common!
So what is the answer?
When we get up we dress, comb our hair and otherwise go to good effort to make ourselves presentable to the world. This is religion. It is putting on a covering that gives us some comfort or confidence when we present ourselves.
The first thing that Adam and Eve did was put on fig leaves, a covering to make themselves presentable to God. When God came calling they realized their religious covering wasn't enough, so they went deeper into hiding; into a green cathedral, a little church hideout.
So the best definition of religion that I have found to date is simply: Religion is a covering. Strange enough it comes from an old Baptist preacher, name of William Branham.
Once you realize that formal, organized and personal religion is just a covering that originates from within; the spiritual side becomes nothing but a one on one relationship with Jesus Christ.
The spiritual side is separating from the world, and its religions, dieing out to yourself, walking in the spirit and allowing the mind of Christ Jesus to dwell in you. It is the difference between knowing Christ and just having ideas about Christ.

For me the religious side has to do with an intellectual knowledge, something coming from your head. The spiritual side is the real side of Christianity. It comes from the Holy Spirit coming to indwell your human spirit when you become a believer. I believe in the gifts and infilling power of the Holy Spirit as described in the book of Acts and I Corinthians 12...THIS belief in the power of the Holy Spirit is a point of disagreement among Christians. Many believe that the gifts aren't for us today..(fundamentalist usually don't)..There are 9 spiritual gifts described in I Cor. 12. They are: the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge, discerning of spirits, tongues, interpretation, prophecy, the gift of faith, the gift of healings, and the working of miracles...I operate in some of the gifts as the Holy Spirit wills (meaning you can't just do it on your own at will)..For example with the discerning of spirits, a believer can see into the spirit realm. With a word of knowledge or prophecy, a believer can tell someone about some past or future event...Unfortunately, these believers get accused of being crazy but this is the actual spiritual side that sadly a lot of believers don't believe in anymore..so they try to argue from their head rather than following the lead of the Holy Spirit...Hope this helps..There is a lot on this subject but that is it in a nutshell..

I didn't see your last question, but for me, religion and spirituality are different. Religion is basically a belief. Spirituality, to me, comes when praising God. Feeling God. Feeling the holy spirit. Being spirit filled.

They are not separate. Christianity is not "generic spirituality". It is based on the person of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. A Christian is someone who understands that they have sinned in life, and there is no way to get rid of those sins except to believe that Jesus died to save us from them.
Once a person is "born again" in Christ, the bible tells us we become a new creation, the spirit of God enters us. We are then His, forever.

To me religion is just a name, a routine; something that has always been done. But to be spirit filled means that you have God's spirit in you, therefore meaning that you have his attributes....That you can love, have joy, peace and no matter what comes against you, you have faith that God can bring you through!!!

My religion is Baptist, but to claim Christ I must show Christ. To be spiritual means let me see Christ through you. In other words are you walking the walk.

Authentic Christian spirituality is the divine life of God himself, indwelling our human soul, and subsequently transforming and sanctifying our very being.
Can't beat that!
