This section is rife with arguments over who is right and which religion (or lack thereof) is better. I think it's more important to ask what we can do through our personal spirituality to help the planet. There doesn't need to be one "right" religion or philosophy. So, how can you use your personal beliefs and spirituality to better the world?

I don't think religion can be used to better the world and here is why. Man creates religion. Man has ego issues. Man wants power. Man wants to control. So no religion can't be used to better a world.

Now spirituality is another story. If people were more in tune with their spiritual self we could do more. Religion tells people what to do and how to feel. Spirituality isn't about that. Our spiritual selves could help the world. We would just have to be able to put ego aside and work for the good of all and not for self.

The point behind Christianity is to tell the truth about the good news of salvation. Jesus didn't say, go forth and pester people until they believe you, but to simply tell the truth and move on.

The greatest thing to give to anyone in the world is the truth.

If you had cancer, and I had the cure, you would need to believe that you had cancer in order for my cure to have any value to you. You can disbelieve that you have cancer all you'd like...that's called denial...but that wouldn't change the fact that you did.
So it is with spirituality and Christ.

Once everyone knows the truth, AND acts upon that truth, the world will be a much better place.

I am a Christian and believe there are innumerable benefits to following Jesus Christ. That being said, the basic tenet of any "religion" is to be a good person and to treat other people with respect and kindness. Whether you are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, or Atheist, doing just that will do more good than harm, thus bettering the world around you. You can only better the world one person at a time.

No organized religion with their rituals, superstitions and dogmas can help better the world. In fact they are substantial causes of the human misery.

Only spirituality can 'better the world' which involves revolutionary transformation of human consciousness, from being conditioned to being liberated.

Liberation comes from self-realization.

I am a non-theist. I believe that doing good while we are on earth is necessary, because we only have shot at happiness. As Thomas Paine said, "My country is the world, and to do good, my religion." (Might not be an exact quote, but pretty damn close)

Thanks for this question, p. It's a good one!

In my religion, we're very tied to nature and the planet. So, we do what we can as part of our practice to heal the earth and impede global warming. My family and I are heavily involved in wildlife rescue as well.

Even if we aren't famous, popular, et al.. I think we make a difference, no matter how small.

i imagine no matter if faith existed, human beings will nonetheless have their personal opinion about particular issues, so there might want to nonetheless be conflict. perchance not non secular wars, yet different conflicts or enormous disagreements. on the different hand, faith supplies human beings something to believe in. It supplies some human beings a reason to be "solid," and likely provide them a objective for residing in a extra civilized way.

The bible admonishes me to be a doer of the word and not a hearer only. One of the very first books I studied in the bible was 2nd Peter. It has this verse, "add to you faith goodness, and to goodness, lovingkindness, and to lovingkindness, mercy.." and it goes on to list things like compassion, forgiveness, etc. My desire is to live my life as Jesus would have me, serving others and being a quiet person who looks to others' needs as well as my own.

We should all use a little logic and fix the number one problem in the world, over-population.

Fix that and the rest will take care of itself.
