...if they misbehave and don't apologise for it?

And, if so, for how long?

A serious question... not really, but then your 'father' appears to have the same fate in store for his kids.

Perhaps you should, it'll help them acclimatise to the awful, unending torment they're going to be damned to.

Not a nice thought, is it?

No.

Atheist's Do you stick you children infront of a T.V. and let the T.V. babysit for you all day while you get drunk or stoned and wonder why kids turn out to be Columbine killers or drug addicts, convicts ect because you are too consumed with your own lives to pay any attention to them, now I call that abuse.

No, but I might do this to a murderous enemy who was bent on destroying me and my family; if he had lived his entire life in active opposition to me and delilberately tried to turn my children or wife against me.

You see, if you want to use this in an attempt to impugn God, then you must have the incorrect notion that we are all God's children. This is simply NOT TRUE. Only those who have been born again belong to God; the rest are His enemies.

Let me ask you:
Would you burn someone if he caused your children to hate your guts? If he slept with your wife? Don't you realize that this is exactly what you are attempting to do? By trying to convince Christians out of their faith, you are playing a very serious wicked game with the ones that God calls His children and the Bride of Christ. Jesus said concerning such people that it would be better for them had they never been born; it would be better for them if a millstone were hanged around their neck and them to be cast into the sea than that they should offend one of his little ones.

You are misinformed and need to repent.

Absolutely NOT, this isn't and never will be a form of discipline!
Not only is it legally considered child abuse, but it is morally wrong.
Who ever informed you of this practice is seriously misguided!
I would hope that you protect these children and report the parent that is doing this!

You may be confusing this idea with the saying that "if you keep telling your child not to stick their hand to near the hot stove and they don't listen - they will eventually learn it's hot after they disobey you and do it anyways.

Its kinda a metaphor for lessons in life.

I asked a similar question once.

Being a mother, seeing life come out of your womb, I cannot imagine tormenting my children for making mistakes. When you look at the Creator who is infinately powerful, all-wise and everlasting, we are like toddlers compared to the Divine One.

I remember my three year old throwing a temper tantrum and screaming, "I hate you Mommy!". He was made to sit in a corner but even that punishment was not everlasting. Apparently certain Christians believe God is far less ethical, merciful and humane than his own Creation, me included.

But then I imagine you will get answers telling you that it is WE who send OURSELVES to hell, not God who sends us there. Well that is equally appalling because if in their theology, God created everything, then he must have also created hell or allowed it to exist.

Would I as a mother allow my toddler to play in a area with a lit stove? Even if I warn them the stove is HOT and they could get hurt. What kind of parent does that make me? And let's say my toddler decides to still go against my warning and touch the burning stove. He gets burnt. Good, he learns his lesson right? I come and comfort him and explain to him that is what happens when you do not obey. The punishment fits the crime. Is the Christian God as merciful as I am? No.

He is like a parent who allows his children not just to feel a burn and learn. He lets them burn forever and just watches and does nothing. I cannot imagine watching MY offspring, no matter how rebellious, troublesome etc, burning and suffering and crying out to me and doing nothing. How SICK is that!

The Christian theology about eternal punishment vs eternal reward is just so grim and distubing to me. I'm so happy I believe in a Loving Creator that gives his toddlers, free will and when we stumble, either accidentally or deliberately, we get EXACTLY what we give out. Equal effect for equal cause, no more, no less. The punishment fits the crime and always our souls can learn and grow and develop throughout eternity.

How can I be pursuaded to worship a Diety that is less merciful than I am?

That's your concept of hell? A place where you're sent if you misbehave? You are clearly not a reader nor a researcher. The clear divider between those who are going to go to hell and those who are not, is Jesus Christ. Everybody misbehaves. Your behavior will not keep you out of heaven. Your rejection of Christ will. Anything that is not pleasing to God is sin. See, you probably would like to see rapists, torturers, serial killers, child molesters and abusers punished severely for their crimes. You may even consider them worthy of hell. What about you? What are you worthy of? We always want to put values on sin. We want to determine which ones are more serious. God puts sin on an even plane. It's all breaking the law. But that can be forgiven. What cannot be forgiven is the slap in God's face. The outright rejection of His Son, who died to save us from our own rebellion against God. That will make you worthy of hell, not "misbehaving", as you put it.

Who does that? That would be considered child abuse. According to the law you certainly can't stick your child's hands into fire. The Bible tells us to follow the laws of the land. I'm sure there are much more appropriate forms of punishment than the one mentioned above.

No, we tell our children not to touch a hot stove and then when they disobey and burn their hands we hope that they will realize that we don't tell them what to do for no reason but because we don't want them to get hurt.

Romans 2:4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? 5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.

Why would you address such a question and why specifically to Christians?

It says more about you than any inference to Christians. IMHO!

Better to singe their hands a bit than to lop it off as the Muslims would.

All I can say is there are no atheist in hell.

When an atheist gets there they are believers but it to late.
Some day you'll know. I hope you find out before you die.
