Don't waste time telling me I'm going to hell. I don't believe in hell. Furthermore, if there is hell, I'd rather suffer there than to be in Muslim heaven and be someone's sex slave. So spare me the cute little vitrioles about, "You will find out soon enough, how hot hell is..." and yada yada yada. Just answer the bloomin' question.

Unknown...You just make yourself look like an idiot with no self-control, who can't handle criticism. Typical Muslim. Good for you.

That's got to be just miserable, how can it not be? I'd think the desert heat would about do a body in, but think of the Muslims here in the US with a combination of heat and humidity. No wonder they've gone half-mad, the heat's frying their brains.

Typical question. First of all let me tell you I grew up for 23 years as a non-muslim and now 4 years as a muslim (and dressed as one) so I can make a good compare/contrast for you.

1) If it is hot outside pretty much everyone is hot regardless of what they are wearing. You see, it'll be DEAD hot like 102 and somebody will ask me, 'Aren't you hot?' I've decided to counter that with, 'Are YOU hot?' Then they say yes...and I say, 'Yeah, I am too.'
2) Depends on what you are wearing.
a) If you are wearing tight clothing, your skin doesn't breathe well so your hot.
b) If you are wearing jeans (unless they are super loose) you will probably be hot.
c) Skirts/dresses are actually cooler than pants. They act kind of like a chimnee and the air goes up.--Lots of circulation.
d) Color does make a difference to some extent (at least when you are out in the sun). But when you see those black abayas ppl wear you have to know they are soooooooooo super thin and loose that it counteracts most of the heat from the color. I only have one and don't wear it much but when I do, I wear a cotton dress under it if it is hot out and I feel like I am wearing almost nothing at all. Yes, I know hard to believe but it's true.

When I started to cover it took a little time to get used to (really not that long at all) but it's mostly that I wasn't used to wearing so much. Think about it, if you live in a climate that gets really cold in the winter and still hot in the summer when you first start to adjust clothing it's a little odd to be wearing a sweater or having sleeves covering your arms when all summer you may have been in tank tops.

3) You get USED to it, like anything else....

At first I would cover some days when I would go out and somedays not for a couple of weeks ...if the sun was beating down and I was wearing short sleeves the sun would feel hot on my exposed skin more than the heat I felt on my upper arm (un exposed skin).

4) So you see, the exposed skin will actually get the suns rays more then the unexposed skin. Now if you are wearing a tight shirt it kind of voids this because it means the unexposed skin will not have any good air circulation so it will be quite hot.

Some other things to consider-- In the desert (the hottest places around during daylight hours) people have traditionaly worn a lot of clothing and covered their heads (men and women). If it truly made them more hot then why would they do this (even before Islam came and after Islam in places where ppl aren't muslim)?

I found it interesting talking to some older Berbers once and they told me that they wear a lot of clothing in extreme weather...when it is very cold they wear layers and when it is very hot they wear layers. Traditionaly they have done this for a very long long long time.

They also drink a lot of tea esp. when it is hot. They say it brings their body temp. up and then they sweat and then they cool down. It sounded crazy to me at the time but it brought about a different way to think of things. I also saw ppl doing this while living in France. Also, they tended to wear more clothing in the summer than the average American. Many of them think we wear too little. France? YES, France. The only time I saw them take it off was at the beach.

Why do cowboys wear cowboy hats etc? To protect them from the sun!

Before 1900 most ppl in this country wore a lot of clothes as well. Everybody just did it even though they were hot. It doesn't mean you need to undress, you are used to it.

Look, I'm not trying to change your mind on anything. These are just the realities. I've made the change and quite frankly, I'm not bothered by it. The only teeny tiny complaint I could have is sometimes my neck feels a bit uncomfortable when it is hot out, but then I can just tie my hijab differently or wear a different style so that it is even looser. But this is such a small thing that it doesn't bother me much.

So bottom line is yes, but not so much more like ppl think --if you are 'really hot', the women walking down the street next to you in hijab is also 'really hot'. If it's not that hot then she's not that hot either.

hope this helps answer your?

Peace!

There are summer versions of the muslimah's clothings of
which the materials are lighter allowing the air to pass in
order to lessen the heat. It is the same with the modesty
protections that nuns wear, they wear out of faith which they
are willing to accept any discomfort caused by the outfits.

It doesn't matter that you don't believe in hell. That will not save you if you reject CHRIST to the grave...also you think hell is no big deal? hold your arm over an open flame on your stove for about one minute.... and then try and imagine that feeling for an eternity... do you get the picture?
