Is it one of those things like Betamax video players or Minidiscs, that try and encourage everyone to buy it, even though it's really expensive and quite useless really? People that are obsessed with having the latest thing will buy it, even if it's not necessary and the whole idea might bomb in the future.

Is there any proof that HD will be big and that we will have to use it in the future? Because hardly any channels are HD anyway and those that are have to be accessed through a subscription with Sky or Virgin Media.

Betamax was actually the better quality of all of them, they just got the marketing wrong and everybody already had VHS. the broadcasting companies such as the BBC still use Betamax.
HD is the next step forward, dont everybody will want it, but eventually it will be the standard the same as digital. The improved picture quality is very noticable. HD wont bomb but will become out of date

It's not just hype, but I'm amazed at how many people have no idea what HD TV is, or get it confused with Digital TV. An HD TV is simply a TV with a higher screen resolution, which is able to display HD broadcasts and media.

If you're planning on buying a new TV, buy one with full HD resolution. They're not much more expensive than one with an HD Ready resolution, so why not have a better picture? If you're not planning on buying a new TV, don't bother. The price of consumer electronics drops rapidly, last week I adjusted the price of an HD Ready plasma down by £1000, and the LCDs get cheaper every season.

When you're in the market for a new TV, get the highest resolution you can (1080p is the best) and always get a 5 year warranty.

Is there a difference between HD or Digital reception ? I receive 82 channels of digital TV via a freeview box, picture quality is superb, I could not wish for any better pict ure. If HD means paying extra they can keep it!

You know what really hisses me off about HD TV? Okay, the effin BBC and their cronies kept on wittering on about Digital TV for years and years. So, a couple of year ago my partner and me bought ourselves a new telly, all digital, nice signal, lots of buttons etc.

Guess wot?

Our BRAND new TV set, a mere 2 years old, does not DOOO HD TV. Fak, fak, fak. More expense. Although since were are both retired, we'll probably not bother.
Same rule applies to buying new clothes - what for?

If you live in a United States Metro Area, then HDTV is being broadcast NOW, as you read this and it free of charge. As to the future, in the USA, it will be fully implemented in year 2009. The other part of your question, when you see it, it will knock your socks off.

If you've never seen HDTV, you need to go somewhere that sells TVs and check it out. It's phenomenal. I know that HDTV channels are somewhat expensive and limited right now, but it really is the future of television. Analog is on it's way out...just like it was in telephones, internet...etc.

The T.V. aspect of it isnt whats impressed me, its the High Def movies. Its worth it if you have a sweet 5.1 system and a Dual Format HD-DVD/BluRay player. Get a movie with a lot of explosions and youll see.

I heard that 75% of the people who own a HDTV don't even watch programs in HD......so it's just hype. I have a 720i HDTV and only watch it in 480i.....I can't even tell the difference between 1080i and 720i....but it looks cool. IMO, HDTV cost alot more than just the tv, you need HD satellite and HDMI dvd player, which cost alot of money.
