your question is a sign of ignorance.
what kind of question is that? first of all i'm pretty sure that everybody in prison isn't ignorant. many are extremely smart and highly educated (partly due to the fact that they have so many free resources available to them in the prison system)
what about all of the other people who have tattoos? i guess you think we are ignorant as well? i disagree. i know people who are in MENSA who have tattoos. i would venture to say that a certified genius would not be considered ignorant by any means.
i'm sorry if you are so closed minded as to think that you are superior to those of us who have chosen to adorn our bodies with ink.
grow up.

"Ignorance" has several defintions. One can have multiple academic/scholastic degrees and not be able to function well in the real world, i.e., lacking stree smarts. On the other hand, one can be "ignorant" by simply lacking poor academic skills, including grammar, punctuation, homophone and apostrophe usage, etc. One can also be ignorant by simply lumping people and things into categories and/or making assumptions, wether or not s/he does it intentionally.
I know people with multiple degrees, who are employed, who have tattoos. I've known people who didn't even have a high school diploma and were more or less all around ignorant who had tattoos.
Personally, if I were to get one, I would think long and hard about it-- What I wanted, how much I wanted to spend, if I even thought it was a necessary purchase. I would definately not get something like Mickey Mouse on me. Paritially, because I'm not a Disney fan and I'm definately not a walking billboard.
A local Army company in the Detroit area came home this week. There was a story on it in Sunday's paper. One of the photos was of a soldier's back with dog tags of fallen friends. The tatoo, which took up most of his back, was both a commemoration and a tribut ti his friends. I've known military people and their rather intelligent in every sense of the word. I do not think the soldier's tattoo was ignorant, nor do I thik the soldier is. He has done a job, he is doing a job that I am neitehr equipped, nor called to do.
Also, from my understanding of prison life/those who have gotten arresteed, some are highly intelligent, but was never taught how to properly use their intelligence. Others, are also highly intelligent but have gotten falsly arrested. However, I've had little experience with this.
I'm curious as to how you came to your conclusion.

tattoos can be an art form but too many people get really shitty ones they trust any one to do it I don't think tattoos are a sign of ignorance at all I think the people that get the tazmania devil and really bad tattoos are stupid but the art its self is not
and I don't think prison tatts have any thing to do with them being a sign of ignorance people in prison have them for the same reason people in public have them b/c they wanted it b/c it marks a important time in your life, the symbol means some thing to them or it creates a bond with them and another person with that tatt like a gang
I think its a sign of ignorance to imply that people with tattoos are some how dumber then people with out them

this is an unfair question. to say that a person has a tattoo for whatever reason being marked as ignorant? a person who wishes to dye their hair bright pink is that ignorant? we live in a society where there is freedom of speech and we should not be judged by the choices we make and those that do judge us are more ignorant than the person with the tattoo,or , or the girl with pink hair. A tattoo is a form of art a way in which we express ourselves and we have the power of free will to say that athletes are partly responsible is also childish we all are born with choice it is your choice to get a tattoo or not get one and those that do wish to follow the crowd again that is their choice. I am a professional minority woman and guess what i have 4 tattoos and a couple of piercings this does not make me ignorant. My tattoos have alot of meaning to them and i wont' regret them they are a part of me and i am expressing myself through my tattoos. I also have a bachelor's degree and a master's degree and i work for the state, yes a government employee so if you think that because i have tattoos makes me ignorant I say to you out of both of us whom is more ignorant you judging a person by a form of expression or me for getting the tattoo and yet have accomplished so much?? i don't know only you can answer that question.

I would like to see you call "those" people in prison ignorant...See if you make it out of the room..This was my gripe the other day!! What ever happened to being open minded...I am fully tattooed and have my masters, have two beautiful kids and a husband who is tattoo artist that easily brings home over 100,000 a year..The shop he works for brings in a quarter of a million every 3 months ...I don't understand why people think that , that a person has tattoos he/ she must be a drug addict are homeless...Don't you narrow minded people realize that tattoos are very expensive..When I look at people with allot of nice work I say "Damn that person must have ALOT of money"..Not "Oh that person must be unemployed"..Come on people..Get a hobby ..or better yet Go get a tattoo..stop being such pansies!!

Being closed minded and judging people by their outward appearance is a sign of ignorance. There are PLENTY of ignorant, stupid people out there without tattoos. There are LOTS of professional, intelligent people with tattoos. Many who have such strong opinions regarding how bad tattoos are, how they will keep you from getting a job, etc. would be shocked at how many in the professional world have them. They are a form of expression and art. Whether a tattoo is good or bad is just someones personal opinion.

it depends on what your tattoo says, the prisoners have these tattoo's showing who they belong too and what they have done in there life time and even in jail. It shows how BAD they are and some tattoo's that gangs have can show a symbol of a brother who died during a gang war, also who they have killed and their gang name and symbol. I learned that from my hubby as he has tattoo's and has scene the worst of the worst. He never was in prison but he knows a lot about them as he loves tattoo's and has dealt with gang bangers, I once to seen a guy on the beach and this guy was tattooed on his whole chest, back neck and arms and every symbol words meant something he did.

the only ignorance involved with tattoo is getting a poor quality tattoo... and there are some really excellent artists who tattoo in the "prison" style... Mr. Cartoon, for example, probably makes more money than you or i do...

Tattoos are not a sign of "ignorance" , many people get tattoos to represent things in there life. And all people in jail aren't bad. But some inmates get tattoos in jail to show off that they were there, i don't know why, i guess they just wanted it to look tougher or something...

Tattoos are forms of self-expression, tribute, memories, things you want to hold on to forever. Tattoos are beautiful. Are you implying that everyone in prison is ignorant? Have you met everyone in prison? I'd love to see what kind of tats you'd end up with......

Ok, first not everyone who has a tattoo has a prison tat. I have eight tattoos myself, all of them a form of self expression, all of them having special meaning to me.
I imagine that prison tattoos are for gang affiliations, not much more.
