I was TDY about 20% of my 6 years in the military. Always had to be ready to go. That's no way to live.

TDY is still pretty common depending on your MOS. Its not a bad deal though, depending on where you go on tdy orders, you definatly cant beat the travel pay and per-diem.

Yes. I was TDY for 3 months last year. I loved it! It is the best way I know to get a bigger paycheck out of the military.

Temporary duty assignments are still fairly common, at least in the Navy. Much depends on your current assignment. Being in Naval aviation, for me every deployment was a TDY (also called TAD in the Navy) assignment. Plus there were numerous assignments for training both in the local area and around the country.

Even in the Reserve, it seems as though I am TDY at least 2 weeks per year.

It doesn't pay like it used to, but it still pays.

Yup, they sure still do. Actually my father goes on TDY all the time, it's still like that no matter which branch you serve. Some people love it, some people don't, just depends.

My father, however, he just loves it.
