How can something be wrong if it does not cause harm? Does god(s) set an arbitrary moral standard or does he(they) set laws according to a standard that he(they) have to live up to.

Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

In other words, sin is anything that hurts your relationship with God.

Something can be wrong whether or not it hurts other people or even God.

Something is wrong because it hurts your relationship with God.

For example: Using God's name in vain may not hurt people or even God but it is wrong and hurts your relationship with God.

With love in Christ.

Read the Ten Commandments, then read Martin Luther's Catechism. The catechism explains the sins and explains how one does do harm when these sins are committed. Leviticus is not a book of commandments, its a book of punishments for tribe members enacted because they had strayed away from honoring God and the tribe. That those punishments are often quoted to inflict pain on people not of that tribe is why Jesus called the clergy, false prophets because not everyone is of those straying tribes. There were 12 tribes by the way. In the 10 commandments there is a real moral standard but it has to explained beyond what is written. When I was young, I memorized the whole Catechism and had to answer questions using the exact wordings in front of 100 people, teaching me public speaking and ensuring that I knew the tenants of the Church, however rote taught me no morals, I had to seek that understanding after the memorization process was finished, which few realize is necessary, and is why moral standard abuse is commonplace.

According to the bible the word sin means falling short of the standard of perfection. We all sin every day as we are all imperfect.
If you believe in the bible it is like a moral code. Examples are given of both good and bad behaviour but also the rewards of some behaviour and the consequences of others.
God allows us all the freedom to live our lives in the way we want but tells us that there may be consequences as a result of our behaviour. There are some grey areas not everything is set out exactly for every subject but the same principles can be applied to similar situations so it becomes a matter of conscience.
The basic rule is that if you do something that is seen to be wrong in Gods eyes and you deliberately keep doing it knowing that it is wrong you have to expect some form of punishment but if you do something by mistake and realise your mistake and are sorry for it and try not to do it again you can ask for forgiveness by putting faith in the ransom sacrifice that Jesus gave.
Some things may not harm others but they may hurt us and we have to decide if we can take the consequences.
The idea behind the ransom sacrifice is that Jesus was perfect and had no need to ask forgiveness but he was willing to offer to make a sacrifice of his human life in payment for putting things back to the way they were before adam and eve behaved imperfectly.

Hope this explains it for you.

Morality and virtues are different for everyone. Sin is something that can cause harm to yourself and others...maybe not physically but mentally. Most wrong things are wrong because they do cause harm in the form of grief of some kind.

The wrong in society & religion if done ignoring facts is called Sin. Because your inner soul also hints/ warns you while doing it that you are doing a Sin.
You yourself is a better judge who can certify that you are doing a Sin or not because you are educated by the society you live.

Sin is anything that goes against the Word of God. Sin can also hurt only you and that in itself is a sin as we are children of God. Thank you Jesus for dying on the Cross for us.

To Sable Rose above: God does not hate sex, just sex that goes against His Word, such as adultery or homosexuality. He gave us sex as a gift and to procreate.

In my opionion, right and wrong is a man-made concept. Do as you wish and be aware if you like the consequences or not for actions produce consequences. For whatever we cause others to experience, one day we will experience.

Sin was invented by men as a tool to create guilt trips . Guilt is a nice way to dominate people.
