Hey,
making a video - can be of many types.
if you want to make a video of your cat, dog, or people around you, you should be using a video camera, or a mobile phone with a video camera. (like Canon, JVC, Nokia N70 etc..)
If you want to make a video of some presentation, or you want to make video of a tutorial of your webpage, or Microsoft Word Document, you should be using a "Screen Capture S/W" that will allow you to save result as video.
Some examples include, SnagIT and Camtasia. I personally love camtasia to make ScreenCapture Videos. Hope this helped.

As for about uploading videos, use Free YouTube uploader from AVS video Tools http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/guides/dvd/upload-video-to-YouTube.htm
It is a very easy program) and absolutely free
