In a recent question I had about the bible, I used quotes from the Old Testament, and because Christians "didnt like" these quotes, they said:
"All your bible quotes are from the old testament. Christians are followers of Christ - new testament people.."

But then in other questions I have seen Christians quote the Old Testament many many times. So why do they do this?

They quote the old testament trying to tell people how to live or to prove a point, but when they don't like the quotes they say that they actually DON'T follow the old testament.

Why do Christians pick and choose like this?

Welcom to the "Insane" world of Christianity. This is what they do. Do you know there are many "clever" Christians out there who still believe there are no contradictions in the Bible? Can you beat that? And if you show them, you know what they say? We have to read in context. Damn it ! And some others, telling me to Read the whole Bible, and I will understand that there are no Errors. There are also a few who say that I have to let Jesus come into my heart, then I will know that the Bible is error free. What Stupidity is this? Their explanations are the most ridiculous one can hear. Their reasoning, the epitome of Stupidity !

as a bottom line... Christianity in almost all its forms, and Jesus and the trinity and all that are *not* in agreement with the old testament.

Christian belief is based upon misintepreted, warped old testament belief, it is fundamentally a threat when applied correctly.

kinda like the claim that Jesus was Sinless, ... by what standard? the FACT is that many of the things THEY belive he did, WAS against the laws of God at the time. it *WAS* "sinful" by any rational standard.

edit:
>>"Nobody can say that the old or the new testatment isn't Gods word.

Read 2 Timothy 3:16,17 "All Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work."

It says that ALL scripture is inspired by God and its beneficial...not only the old or new testament. "<<

lol. thats some funny crap. the muslims consider the koran to be scripture... mormons consider the book of mormon to be scripture... don't they? what about the books that YOU don't count but others do? anyone who includes that line can add whatever "scripture" they want and consider it supported by God. ... which is of course silly.

It depends what you are asking about.

If you are asking about Old Testament (contract) law that was fulfilled with the Birth, Death and Resurrection of Jesus the Christ.

Christians do live under a New Testament (contract) but there could not have been a "New Contract" With out the fulfillment of the Old.

Look at it this way...

1...A contract is completed when all terms are met (fulfilled).

2...The Old Testament said "I God will do this, this and this for you but you have to do this (obey my laws).

3...Since the penalty for breaking my law is death, if you can not keep my law then you must sacrifice animals in your place.

4...But one day I will send you a Savior who will be able to fulfill my laws and when that happens this contract will be ended...

5...You will no longer be required to sacrafice for your sins, for I will give you an ever lasting sacrafice once and for all.

6...Jesus was born of a Virgin and met all other prophcies about the coming Savior...

7...He was tempted like any man yet stayed sinnles

8...He was Sacraficed on the Cross and died for the sins of mankind.

9...He rose on the third day and assended into Heaven to give eternal life to those who will believe that He was the Lamb of God the final Sacrafice (once for all)

10...The New Testament (contract) started.

The rules of the (New Rules of the contract are simple)

1.Believe He was the Lamb of God
2.Repent and be Baptized
3.Continue to live the way Jesus teaches, in order to recieve eternal life.

THERE IT IS....

I did not get to read your original question, but I can see where some confusion may come in here.
I imagine it depends somewhat on the context of how either you or they used it.
Some Christians think they only have to read and understand the New Testament...they don't see how the Old goes with the New. They lose so much by ignoring it.
The last part you wrote, the thing is again how it is used. We aren't under the law (o.t.) to follow it, but it is upheld in the n.t.
I guess I'd need to read your original question. Some of us can get ...peculiar, in our methods and translations

True Christians do not do this, only false ones do.

Consider Jesus and apostles who wrote the rest of the Bible quoted from the books of the prophets found in Genesis, Deuteronomy, Numbers, Psalms to mention a few.

The scripture reads, "ALL scripture is inspired of God and beneficial...." not just a few parts.

You wouldn't have a New Testament without the old. Where else would the ideah of a coming Messiah come from? On the other hand Christs coming was a fulfilment of the Old Testament.

Although we follow both the NT AND the OT, when Jesus came to earth we are under a new covenant and not under the law anymore.

The Ot is just an intro to the NT.
