The best Indian universities are very good, mainly because the students there are very smart and hardworking. When you have One billion people to choose from, then you can get a set of students who are truly brilliant!
The best American universities are probably the best in the world, and the average second-level American universities are probably much better than the second level Indian universities, for a variety of reasons.
In the USA the elite schools receive a large number of applications for admittance from well qualified students, so they can pick students for admission who are smart, well-prepared and creative. In those schools the facilities are the best that money can buy - state of the art computer labs, engineering and bioscience, huge libraries with well trained staff, every kind of support that can be imagined. The wonderfual facilities and high pay attract the very best faculty in the world. Then, the students interact on a very personal level with the professors - my youngest son attended the University of Chicago. There are 12 Nobel prize winners on the Faculty. He had lectures from several of them and actually stopped by to chat with them during their open office hours. He had several classes with outstanding faculty where the class size was four students. The students and their teacher went out to dinner together and talked for hours about how research could work, etc. This is an extreme example, but it is true to a lesser degree of all the top 100 universities in America. Students and teachers have excellent resources and spend a lot of time talking informally and building relationships outside class. The students are expected to take advantage of their research opportunities -- my son had his choice of over 200 paid summer research internships after his freshman year.
Not all American universities are rigourous. This is because in the USA nearly all kids graduate from secondary school, and nearly half of all students who graduate from secondary school attend college. So, some good top-level Indian student who comes to the USA is likely to be in college with a second level or third level American student. When I taught at a mediocre American collegeI had several Indian students who were the best student in my class - sometimes they looked at these third level Americans and got a distorted view of the American students. I was able to get them to have a better view of Americans by sending them over for a few lectures with a friend at a neighboring Ivy league college. Then they realized what the level of education was at the American elite schools.
Everyone in the world respects the best Indian schools, like IIT, but there is a reason why over 500,000 international students a year come to the US for college every year.

very nice question. The following are both the merits and demerits in American education while comparing to Indian education:-
1. There is no restriction for the students to select their subject. Very interestingly, the students by themselves select their teacher to teach.
2. Both the students and the teachers are considered the equal importance. Whatever prob happens within them, the enquiry committee will investigate and they wont fear to punish the teacher.
3. Students are not only infused in curriculum. They are well brought up in technology, project works, experimental studies, etc..
Like this, we can say lots of reasons in which American education is both bad and good..

The grass doesn't grow forever and the water doesn't flow forever either. The native Americans were beaten by a superior force and forced to live in a very confined area compared to their original way of life when they traveled according to the seasons and the food supply. When they were confined to the "reservations", it was with the promise of being taken care of since they didn't have any way to get food. They were given small pox infested blankets, rotten meat, inadequate health and financial aid. This led to the psychological dispair that led to alcoholism, drug abuse, and diabetes. They have over 75% unemployment on the reservations for the simple reason is that they are not taken care of when they leave. So they stay there and suffer.

Indian education is better because they are teaching most of the things theoritically And so the children will imagine those things and the imagination power of them will be increased.few things they are teaching practically and that will be enough.
