You know the correct and only way to calculate the rms values is with this formula:

Vrms = Vmax (maximum peak)
___________________
square root (2)

but the truth is they amplifier manufacturers do just what they like to do like the other guy said they double, triple it, whatever. I say they should be obligated to display the correct rms value of power average what do you think?

If you're talking about amplifier or sub ratings, there's no set standard. Some manufacturers use double their RMS rating for max; some use three times, some use ten times. Some use one standard for their speakers and a different one for amps.

If you tell us the brand and model of the amp or speaker you're inquiring about, we'll try to find an actual RMS rating.

Usually RMS is half the total watts but sometimes it is a little different.
