I have known my boyfriend for about 8 years, we have been seeing eachother for 5 weeks and officially an item for 2 weeks. Last night he told me that he loves me and I said it back! I'm so happy, but my mates said that its way too soon and we should slow down! Does it really matter how long its been if we both feel the same?!
By the way, I'm 20 and he is 22 so we arent young foolish teenagers just mucking about!

I didn't mean offense by the 'young foolish teenagers' comment! I just mean that this isnt puppy love! Sorry if I have offended anyone!

If you have known him for 8 years then of course it is not too soon.
Don't listen to your friends, they might be jealous or something.
I know a couple who met, got engaged 6 weeks later and married after just three months. They have now been together nine years and are travelling the world together.
You cannot put a timeline on love, it just happens. There is no "standard rules to follow" when it comes to love. It is different for everybody and no too couple are the same or feel the same.

I was in the exact same situation! I met my other half at school when we were 11 (we're both now 25)
We were friends with one another but nothing more. Then, we started seeing one another when we were 19. Two weeks later, he said he loves me. I was dead chuffed and squealed at him I love him too, before I went round telling everyone who'd listen. Bottom line is, I was in love with him even before I knew I was-we've always been drawn to each other without ever really knowing why. Before we started seeing each other officially, I always cared about him very much but couldn't put my finger on why I felt differently towards him than I did to other male friends. The answer: I was always **** over tit for this man!
6 and a half years down the track, we're still blissfully happy, engaged, living together and expecting our first baby together.
The key point: It's only too soon if it feels too soon for you. If it feels right then go for it girl, because we're proof that if it it feels right at the time then it can't be wrong.

If you've known him for 8 years of course not - you both know what your all about so really the relation ship has been going for 8 years even if most of it was just as friends. I said it to my GF at the age of 16 (and was just 16 too) and were still together im now 22

Enjoy the warm fuzzies. 8 years is long enough to understand how a man behaves. 7 weeks is a reasonably long time I think to have got to where you are. You aren't moving in or getting married are you? So say it and say it over and over then you'll get into the habit! I proposed to my wife 12 weeks after I met her for the first time and married her 6 months later. Love does not work to a time frame. You are you after all, you are not your mates.

It is never too soon to tell someone that you love them! Good on you girl - go for it and be happy! Slow down? Why? Life is too short! I am 61 and my partner is 21 and we love each other and are constantly telling each other that! We are a gay couple by the way - but what the hell! Love has no boundaries and nobody should tell you (in your case) to slow down or not do this and not do that!

Well you have known him for a while as friends so you know each other a little more than if you have only just started dating.
I say go for it. My hubby and i got engaged after 6weeks and then married 16 months later, we have a 7 year old nd a 19 months old.
So go for it.

It is not as if you just met. You have known each other for quite some time. You are both adults. You may want to wait awhile before moving to the marriage stage though.

you know as long as you feel it and mean it, its all good. if u feel have to say it just because he said it or if u dont feel right or ready, then its ok, u dont HAVE to say it.
alot of people take love for granted and just say it because they feel mean or something if they dont but love is such a strong word and you cant just let it fly free. some people can be SO upset when they realise it meant nothing, you know?
its doesnt matte rhow long you've been together, you just need to make sure ur ready and u mean it. =)

No. You've known him for 8 years. I know you haven't dated that long but the 8 years should count for the feelings you have for him.
