I think the people that like the tuner crap are a bunch of slackers.Wimpy little punks that wouldn't know what to do with REAL ENGINES.For the clown that said you can get more HP out of a 4 cyl.engine ,you are high on crack. 4 cylinders is only HALF an engine.

This is an absolutely silly question! You are asking in the Auto-Racing section, so let's look at this from a racing perspective.
First, what exactly is a tuner car? Just about ANY car will need tuning and setup to be successful in racing or any performance aspect (hey, even most street cars aimed for track use will require a proper alignment and corner balancing and probably more). So when you say "tuner car" do you mean any car? Or do you mean an economy car with stickers and oversized exhaust tips to make it look like it might be able to go fast? Or is this something I can drive and use to tune my guitar at the same time?
And V8? Honestly, does it really matter what the engine layout is or how many cylinders it has? Would you rather a V8 truck engine from a 1940 pickup or a Flat 6 from a Porsche GT3RSR to power a lightweight race car? When it's all said and done, the engine's capabilities and characteristics are what matter. HP/L too doesn't matter, unless you are facing some type of displacement restriction... etc etc.
So which would I prefer? Meaningless option number 1 or meaningless option number 2? I would go with none of the above and select something that actually mattered.

I'll take a v8 anytime over a tuner.Like everyone has said.A v-8 car is ready to go right out of the box.I would love to see how much it would cost to build a turner engine to make the power that my 750 hp dirt late model makes.....and sound as tuff as it does running on open headers.I can also say I haven't had a tuner keep up with my v-8 stang either and it's mostly stock other then the exhaust.

My personal choice would be an old 454 or 350 Chevy. I just like to able to "tune" my engine without a computer. Take a 350 bored to 30 over and put a 400 crank it back it up with a 350 turbo tranny, add in an mds spark multiplier a 800 cfm 4 barrel carb and some nitro, put it all in something like 1969 camaro and it would out run alot of the street "tuner" cars.

what if i asked you:
would you rather have a really hott girl, or a girl that has the potential to be a really hott girl, and all she needs is some make-up, a hair makeover, a little tanning, etc.??
you would probably tell me i was nuts.
dude V8's are already ready to go, the power is already there. you dont need to buy turbo chargers, and turbo timers, and exhaust pipes, and little air filters and spark plugs to make it go. i own a V6 Eclipse, its my 2nd Eclipse. my first car was an earlier model 4 cyl Turbo All Wheel Drive Eclipse, and ive also owned a Firebird Formula Convertible with the 5.7L LT1 Corvette Engine, so i have comparisons for all those engine sizes, and there is NOTHING like that V8.
you get in and just ROAR down the street, nothing stopping you.
my firebird was entirely stock except for the K&N filter, and that thing smoked nearly every car i ever encountered on the road. i remember the first car that ever pulled a notch on me was a newer model Trans Am [the newer/better version of my car]. but i never once let any "ricer" get anywhere close to thinking he had me on the road.
my recommendation is the V8, Corvette if you want a specific. =)

tuner. usually they weight less and have better balance and good for auto-x and road racing at a tighter budget. if you are talking about drag racing, v-8 is way to go. cheaper to mod. i personally like some car have not that much hp but is fun to drive and good balance and light weight. so tuner car is my pick.

A tuner car because you can do just that. You can get more HP for the weight out of a 4 banger than a v8. It might take some time but you can build those suckas up. Tuner cars are generally more fun to drive because the suspention is better.

Get a V-8! You have to put tons of money and NOX in a tuner (or a ford) to get it to run close to a mildly tuned small block Chevy.
I talked to a tuner owner who tried to tell me he outrun a ford v-8 mustang with his car. I doubted him and when pressed, he finally admitted that it took him a mile to catch the 'stang. Tuners, NYUK!! What a joke!!
Another joke; 20" wheels and skinny tires. Those stupid tires vibrate at speed, can't be ballanced out of it, and ride like rocks!

V8. Its already got way more power and torque stock. Ricers dont realize that anything you can do on a little 4 cylinder you can do on a v8 and get the same % hp gain.
