Both. The only sin that you cannot get forgiveness for is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. Otherwise, when you ask God for forgiveness of any sin you have committed, he does have mercy and loving kindness on us. However, because we were disobedient, there is still a penalty for sin. That is just like with your own child. When they are disobedient, you will forgive them and continue to love them but we often punish them for what they have done. May God Bless U.

Repentance brings God's forgiveness. Anything that is not forgiven will be judged whether you are Christian or not. The Christian won't loose their salvation, but the deeds he does will be judged whether good or bad and rewarded accordingly. God cannot look upon sin because He is Holy, so when a Christian sins, fellowship with God is broken and can only be repaired by repentance. The nonbeliever will be judged anyway and sent to hell because he/she did not believe on the Son of God.

Both ! He's merciful and just. He will forgive your sin but then you will suffer the consequences, a lot of people don't realize that there are laws and can not be broken and if you break them you will pay for it. it doesn't matter whether you believe or not. for instance you can go to the top of a building
and jump because you don't believe in gravity, but it doesn't matter because remember that "what goes up it must come down".

God is just - He has to be. The great part is, because of Jesus, our sins can be forgiven if we truly are sorry and ASK for forgiveness. So God is both, just and merciful.

No sin goes unpunished!
God acts with humans in two ways. The way we ourselves act toward others -- we act differently with those related to us and toward perfect strangers.
God acts toward some as his children, these get punished, disciplined for all their sins with mercy. On this their salvation is dependent.
Strangers, the unbeliever, he also punishes. But he lets them be until they have filled up their cup of sins whereupon they are made to die suddenly -- when they die they die for all eternity and have no hope of salvation.

There are many examples in the Bible, an interesting example is King David's after he sinned. God forgave him but gave him many years of suffering and big problems because of this serious crime.

God will forgive us if we repent and will be merciful on us. If we continue in the sin, ultimately we're going to be judged for it. This also is God's mercy to try and bring us back to Him to repent.

He can do anything he wants to do. From my experience and the scriptures, God places the sins of those who belong to him in a sea of forgetfulness. ( Figurative) Yet there are some places where God actively chastens them, for who he loves he chastens, so that we can be fashioned according to his will.
So being a Christian is not the easiest thing in the world at times. But it is the best thing in the world always. Because the things that God has prepared for us are not even imagined. And as Paul says, We will reap in due season if we faint not.

In a way...both. If you are truly sorry for your sin and repent of it, then surely he will forgive. That is the promise. However, he will often let you reap what you have sown...in otherwords, he will let you suffer the consequences of your actions. It is how we learn. Mercy and justice per se.
