Im planning on buying a Mac, but I still want the programs for Windows, such as Aim 6.1 and Windows Messenger. Yes I am downloading Boot Camp for it, I am making sure that all the programs I love using on Windows will work on a Mac if i install them.

Adium, free on OS X, is a multi-chat client that handles AIM, MSN, etc.

Boot Camp allows Windows (XP only) to Dual-boot on Mac hardware, BUT, you need a full version , an upgrade won't work. OS X ,and other versions of Linux, usually include WINE, to run many Windows apps in emulation mode also.

The switch was easy for me, because I use Open Source software whenever possible. I installed Firefox, Skype, Neo-Office and VLC and it doesn't matter which OS I choose. I'm not a Gamer.

Post a list of your favourites and I may be able to suggest alternatives.

You have a couple choices for this, the majority require a copy of windows, so have that. Two of the most well known are Boot Camp and Parallels.

Boot Camp partitions your hard drive so your computer essentially runs Windows, just like any other computer. It is currently free at Apple website, http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/

Parallels runs Window simultaneously with Mac OS X, which is great if your going to be using both Mac OS X and Windows, and you need to switch between them. What is basically does is run Windows in a window, allowing you to switch between OS's quickly.

For you needs and the fact that you have a burning desire to run Windows, I would suggest Parallels, which you can get for about $80.00 (http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/ )

Personally, I would recommend you just find Mac alternatives to those apps. For an alternative to those IMing apps, Try Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/ ) which is a free-ware IM app that allows you to connect to many screen-names at once, and talk to about anybody. Also Trillian Astra is coming out soon (which will support the Mac) and it is looking to be awesome (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/ap/index.php?area=performance ).

As long as you have boot camp anything will work that is compatible with Windows...It actually runs Windows on your computer so you will not have any compatability issues.
