I have an issue with an ex-girlfriend. We broke up about 6 months ago after a short-lived but intense relationship. After some fighting and a rumor saying that I called her 'easy' was spread (and she refuses to believe it was a mere rumor), we didn't talk for a couple months. Now we rarely talk at all, and when we do she is very rude and condescending. She has also been telling mutual friends and co-workers of mine that she hates my guts. Normally I would just ignore her and move on but we both work at the same place (in different departments). Why is she doing this? Is she just bitter or is there something more to this. And also, how do I go about handling this?

-I would rather not quit my job as it is very well paying
-She has already heard my side of the story
-I have been ignoring it for the past four(4) months
Thanks for the answers so far.

I had this same problem, but we still lived togeather as well....ok...

IGNORE HER!! there is no point throwing gas onto a flame. Let her say what she wants.

really you have no option other than quitting your job (BAD IDEA) because she can say what she wants...if it gets too bad I guess you can go to your boss and explain the situation and that it affects your work and the work of your co-workers.

Apologize to her. Say you're sorry if you did anything to hurt her. Then ignore her. If anyone asks about her, take the high road and say it's not a topic for conversation. Be prepared to look for a different place to work though: this is why dating at work is a bad idea.

It's because she lost face in the work place. No woman wants to be known as "easy".

It's her pride that got hurt, there's no going back after that. Just remain cool, tell your side IF you have to, ignore the rest.

well thats what happesn when u have work place romances. id just ignore it and do your own thing nistead of dissecting what her intetions were or confronting her.. dont involve yourself in it. like u siad its a good paying job, if this winds up going to humnan resources you will look like hte innocent bystander and her - the trouble starter.

she is still hurt and i would say that she would take you back in a minute this is away of keeping you in her life and a connection with her see if she will set down with you and try to clear the air between the two of you and then see where it takes you.

this holds true for most things and people...
if you ignore it, it'll go away. if you dont feed into her and the bs, she'll quit. be an adult about it and just ignore it. really!
