There's no reason to. If I were you, I'd look at the newer PSC machines. PSC is short for PRINT-SCAN-COPY. They are getting fairly cheap now, and you can use them to print your photos, copy stuff, and scan whatever you need to.

This way, the scanner option is always handy, but you don't have another big accessory taking up space in your personal office or next to the pc.

I just looked on google/products, and you can get an HP or Lexmark model for around $100 bucks. That's the low end but you can start there and consider what you really want and up the ante depending on what you need.

Today, scanners work on so many levels. Some "basic" models can scan text documents, photographs and negatives. And newer ones have a feature I can't live without called "descreening" which enables you to scan printed images without getting that textured effect. So even a small investment pays off in the long run.

Then invest in a basic model.

If you just want a basic model... you're either going to have to invest in one or hope that someone comes along and gives you one. The only "legal" way to get it is to buy it.

That's why you should invest in one.

If a basic model is what you want, check out these Lexmark All In Ones which print, scan and copy. I'm quite happy with the model I bought.
