I've been.....I guess you could say away from God for several, several years. By Christian definition, I have never been saved, but I grew up in a Baptist home. I have recently begun to think that maybe the things that I have been thinking about religion are wrong, and that maybe I should study more. I have yet to open my Bible, but for some reason I get this.....I guess you could call it a fluttery feeling in my chest every time I think about it, and I start feeling a little better about things, feeling a little more happy. I haven't even done anything. I've been talking to a few people about their views of religion, because I have questioned mine for a while, but that is it. Why am I feeling like this?

Ask a doctor... you may be having anxiety problems or you may be experiencing atrial flutter, (a form of heart trouble.)

By the way, it wouldn't be to far fetched to link your possible anxiety problems with psychosis... so perhaps the doctor you see ought to be at least a part-time shrink.

Keep in mind that you're dealing with feelings here...emotion... Tell me something, would you cross the street without thinking first?

I believe you are feeling the Lord calling you. Reading your story actualy reminds me of how I felt back in 2000. I was raised in a Baptist home as well. But as I grew older I didn't really believe the same as everyone eles I knew did. I started questioning everything I have ever been taught. Later in life I meet my husband and he was as well raised as a christian. But he already knew his calling of life and didn't have any questions cause he felt the Lord work in his life. Well after we got married he wanted us to go to church as a family. Well I went to make him happen. And one sunday came along when the pastor was preaching I started feeling this tugging in my chest. Honestly at first it scared me, I just thought something was wrong with me. So I started making up reasons why I wasn't going to church. And finally my husband stop asking me to go. Well the Lord had other plains I didn't know of. My children wanted to go and see this play called Jugdement House.( That was Oct. 31. 2000) So we went and the tugging in my chest was stronger then ever. There was know way out, had to finish the play. (for it was the type you walk through) At the end of it, they ask people to give there life to the Lord. Told everyone to close there eyes so no one would see anything. Than he lead the sinners pray and told everyone if you haven't accepted the Lord and feel you should then pray along and mean it with all your heart. The tugging in my chest was at it's strongest peak.So I said the pray and broke down crying. I felt so much lifted off of me. A peace come over me I couldn't explain with words. That was the day I knew there was a Lord. But, I didn't go back into bad habits of listening to everyone eles. I started learning the Lord on my own. I ease all the teachings and prayed as I read the bible: to show me truth. I slip here and there, but we all do. Either way it goes the Lord has his own ways to get us to listen to him and show us he is real. So maybe u are asking the right questions and getting the view points , that is opening up the doors for the Lord to reach you.

Wow! If you are already feeling better, what in the world would happen if you decide to draw closer to GOD? I think that you should not allow this positive development in your life to die away. Take a step, go back to church, join a Bible study group where you can study and ask questions to get more answers.

It is clear that GOD is convicting your heart, and HE is subtly
reminding you that HE loves you.

I wish you the best. Please check these verses out in the Bible: John 6:37; Luke 15:11-24

That's God's way of showing you He's still there waiting on you to ask Him to come into your heart and live. He knows the desires of our hearts and He knows your desire is study more. Only Jesus can make you feel better the way your describing. Maybe your subconcience has been talking to God for you! Maybe you should try praying when you have that "fluttery" feeling and said Lord if that's you give me a huge sign. Then sit still, sit back, and watch what happens. I pray that God speaks to you very specifically and let's you know He's there and let's you know what His will is for your life. God bless!

Once a person realizes that we are all born sinful and in a sinful condition, and they realize that they need Jesus Christ's willful sacrifice to take their place for the sin in their life, they want to know Him.

Jesus is the personal relationship that God has given to the world to show us His love, grace and forgiveness.

Along with Jesus, who is God's Word in the flesh, I would like to invite you to read God's written Word, the Bible. In it you will find love, comfort and most of all you will learn to know Jesus as your personal Friend, Lord and Savior. The book of John is a good place to start.

To become a Christian and be saved all that is necessary is to invite Jesus into your heart and life. Ask Him to be your Lord and Savior. Then repent which means to turn away from your sins. You will then, have eternal life and salvation. May God bless you. The Spirit and the bride say "come!"

Well, following God is just a matter of choice...
I had the same experience, I grew up in a christian family
but as I grew up I wasnt able to be a part of the church and stuff.
I was not active in my spiritual life for years
I also felt better at first but as time goes by I began to feel empty...
My advice, go back to your church
give it one more try...

Being born into a religion doesn't save your soul.

Good feelings doesn't save your soul.

Doing good works, practicing religion, undergoing rituals doesn't redeem you.

"For it is by grace that we have been saved, through faith, and this is not of ourselves- it is the gift of God, not by works so that no one can boast."-Ephesians 2:8-9 -The Bible

"If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved."-Romans 10:9 - The Bible

Doing good deeds cannot bring you to God, because only Christ is the mediator bewteen God and man.

Doing good deeds is a commandment of Christ... it is the evidence that we follow Christ.

Salvation is not a license to sin... it is grace that forgives us when we mess up.

All the wisdom in the world will not help you to know God.

I can garuntee you that there are Athiest that have better Biblical knowledge than you or I.

In all other religions, you work to appease God.

You pave your own way to God... thinking that your own merit will allow you to see a perfect Holy God.

All men have sinned and haven fallen short of the Glory of God.

Jesus said," I am the Way and the Truth, and the Life, no one can come to the Father except through me."

God sent His Son to die to take our place...

so that we can know God... so that we shall be saved...

Questioning one's faith is normal...

Doubt is normal...

Don't walk away from God, give Him a chance...

No not religion or church or whatever... Give Christ a chance...

Ask Him to save you, ask him for forgiveness of your sins...

I did, and I know that I cannot live without Christ.... Christ is the only hope for this world...

Religion will not satisfy your soul...

Rituals, wisdom, good works, money, alcohol, drugs, fame, possesions, power....

nothing will ever satisfy your soul...

because it is all in vain...

You have the free will to choose what you want...

Choose life...

I don't know for sure. I doubt if anyone can give you a completely truthful answer. However, what you describe is much the way I felt when I received the call from God. He knocks....but it is up to us to open the door to Him. I'm not really sure what causes it but I like to think that perhaps it was my spirit rejoicing at that contact with my creator. Follow your heart.

I got the same thing! I believe that is Him calling you. That feeling of things are a little better, a little easier, a little brighter, etc, I think that is His peace coming to settle on you. Start to study as you planned to do, take it slow and absorb what you are reading and apply it to the life you are living. You don't have to read a full book of it each sitting, but think on it and mull it over in your mind and how it could apply to you. He wants you. You are being summoned and invited to come, He is knocking on the door and waiting for you to open the door for Him. All you have to do is open the door. :)
