Trust me.... I go to a Private christian school....I know the JESUS FREAKS! but Christianity is not all like that, if someone comes and asks you about your spirituality.....Try to listen to their points non judgmentally.... I'm a christian, but i don't beat people over the head with a bible....We get a bad rep from alot of maniacs out there......That's my two cents.
This is my second answer after reading the other answers provided by atheists......WTF?! are you serious? Are you telling me that we came from monkeys and there is no purpose to live and that all this is meaningless? whats the point of staying alive?! where do you draw your sense of morality? Aristotle's nichomachean Ethics....or perhaps Euripides?!.....Do you just live for pleasure?!
as for little bobbys link..........its stuff like that that turns people away!......its extremes and stupidity like that!

I've read The Bible from start to finish at least a dozen times...(even studied it completely in an English class in college)
It's fantastic literature, no doubt about it...
But like all other things written and re-written and re-translated and re-aumented by fallible human beings...
It has some pretty far-fetched claims about something none of us knows even exists...
Even if all the supernatural things that happened in The Bible actually happened, that does not mean that some bodiless "creator of the universe" is responsible...
If A = B, and B = C, then A = C...
A: (unsubstantiated supernatural claims)
B: (verification of supernatural things)
C: (Creator of the Universe)
In that equation, I can see how A might equal B...
But how you get A to equal C...
That's the problem...
It's a huge guess of a leap, and not even a plausible guess, and even a child given the facts, points holes in the contradictions and obvious fallacies of the assuption by asking questions like...
Does God have a God?
Is God male or female?
You can't have pre-determinism AND free-will at the same time...
Why didn't God simply create a universe where life has free will, but life would never choose evil?
If this is the best God could do, why do people think God is so great?
Why does cauliflower have no taste?
Religious people are the ones who say don't judge...but then they judge more than any others...
Blind acceptance of what you were taught is not very intelligent...
Come up with your own "individual" belief based on your "experience," not what's been drummed into your head over and over by other people who don't "want" to "think" for themselves...
Why would a god or gods create beings who could think for themselves, and then say...
"But whatever you do, don't do that..."
Use your own logical thought process, and you'll probably find that even YOU find the inconsistancies to be absurd...
I'd bet a hundred bucks YOU have never read it from start to finish like a novel (which is basically what it is...a lot of fiction, with a sprinkling of questionable historical fact)...
All things like that aside, however...
It does teach valuable lessons in what happens when people give in to their baser instincts...
But common sense teaches that just as well, and with fewer words...

You should practice what you preach. I was a church going xtian for more years than I have been an Atheist and I have no doubt that I know the bible better than most people. You get your facts buddy.
I don't know what you consider bashing but I don't like religion and think that the world would be better off without it. Having a difference of opinion is not bashing. I say what I think

You apparently are not too bright. A good many of the atheists in this world started out as believers and they probably have a better understanding of the bible than most believers do. Those atheists that haven't read the bible...well reading the bible is only gonna strengthen the atheists understanding that religion is all bunk.

Can you say "hypocritical?"
Before bashing atheists, how about picking up another religion's "holy book" or go to their "churches." Please don't think that you're choice in religion is 100% right when there are so many more ideas out there, such as atheism.
IMO: Religion != Facts

I'd rather bash people who don't know how to ask a question like you're supposed to on Yahoo! Answers. Besides, many people become atheists BECAUSE they read the Bible or went to church.

I own multiple bibles. I read them 2. I went to church that was a waste of time. If you knew the facts and did read books out side of your religion. You would know how irrational religion is.

I have read The Bible. It only made me realize that I was 100% correct in my thinking as an atheist. I attended church for many, many years also. I find it amusing that you refer to knowing the "facts" in The Bible. But to each their own, right?

I'm don't believe in God, yet tried going to church and reading the bible....I just thought it was nonsense.
So who's judging before getting all the facts???????
I love it how you christian types seem to assume atheists know nothing about religion.
